I just want to rant a bit, back to my old complaining topic the Timeshare Wanted Listing.

I understanding the Offering LMR listing, where if you have something that you can't use. But the Wanted LMR listing often times is just a s@*t show, in my opinion. This OP has 23 postings to date, and they want a 2 BR in Hawaii for February. This was posted today, exactly 60 days out. And obviously expecting it for $115 a night, as they are asking in LMR. I've seen others too, NYC 2 BRs, Bonnet Creek 4 BRs units, or whatever crazy request that I see.

Some people have no reasonable expectations, again, in my opinion. No reasonable expectionation, ether based on size of units requested or location, or both, and the price they expect to pay.

More power to them if they find someone who will grant the request, but I know for a fact it will not be me. The reasonable ones not bother me, but the ridiculous ones grate on me, obviously.

Venting done, I feel better.

My recommendation is that you block the poster so that you don't see their posts in the future.

There are times when someone will make a request that seems unreasonable (or laughable) and I've wanted to warn them not to hold their breath waiting. And then, miraculously they find something that works for them. My guess is that some people post a request expecting a private reply offering something that exceeds dollar limits.

From what I understood (even with the terms in red at the top) there is no limit to what you can ask when responding to a LMR wanted post. Any negotiations need to be in private DM but they aren't limited to the $115.

I always want to post a pie in the sky image/meme to all those posts.

I posted one in Oct hoping for a last minute 2BR rental on Maui. I had realistic expectations and invited people to PM me. I was hoping that perhaps people would offer me something more than the limit and I would seriously consider. It’s just my way to sollicite offers 😀

Some people will be good with offline negoiations, especially those with realistic expectations. However most that I have attempted to locate something hard or scarce are tring to get it for a song, and claim there is a limit.

So I don't even bother anymore.

Sometimes it is good to rant to relieve frustration, pressure and stress. IMHO

Here's the thing: The LMR Forums are not forums where you should expect to make a profit or even break even. Their purpose is to provide a forum for Tuggers who want to get rid of last minute reservations they can't use themselves, and recoup some of the cost. I have recently sold some reservations that we couldn't use for $800, and was happy to do it, but I had no expectations of breaking even or making a profit. I had already tried to rent them for more, on other forums, and was not successful.

However, I never try to fulfill requests posted on the Rentals Wanted Forum, because I'm not interested in doing $800 rentals, unless I have reservations in-hand that I can't use. So the LMR forums don't frustrate me, because I don't use them, unless I need to dump something.

There are lots of other places, included the TUG Marketplace, where you can post for-profit rentals. YMMV

I also hope that people who post great last minute rentals give priority to TUG posters rather than people who are just trolling for great prices. The few times I've responded I always mention how long I've been on TUG and how I understand how timeshares work. I believe there are times when the first responder is not the best person to get the rental. I know I would wait a day for a TUG member to respond as I would prefer to give a deal to people who help out on this forum.

I don't mean to hijack your thread @Sandy VDH, but I believe this is relevant. I have done all the above. Well, I don't tend to request stays. I have requested publicly when I can offer a say under the $800 and responded privately with success and not to some I have options for that don't meet the maximum.

My question is this: I have been a member for three years. Specifically, three years of massive inflation. The maximum requirements for the LMR forums have not changed in those three years. I used to be able to offer several options for a week under $800. With three years of $$ increase, that is flat out impossible now. So, who sets those limits? Have they ever increased? Is there a process to increase them? How on earth have we not triggered and update if there is? I could come up with more, but it seems like these forums would have a lot more productive engagement if the limits were $900 or eve $1000 is the current climate.

Anyway... if there is a better place to ask that I would be happy to. I fully understand your rant. :)

Hear hear on increasing the maximum from $800

This would probably be better as its own thread in this About TUG BBS forum. Just to add some context. For years, MANY YEARS the limit was $100 a night or $700 for a week. It took a long time and a lot of persistence to get that increased to $115/$800. That is the only change I am aware of since the conception of the forum. I don't know exactly when the forum was created, but the oldest thread here is from 2007, but I see actual postings of rentals as far back as 2013. In any case, one change in a decade shows that change is possible, but not likely.

Crazy expectations for some of the weeks I have seen listed in LMR, yeah, it makes me crazy, or it gives me a bit of a chuckle, depending on my mood. I ignore most of them.

The person that posted 23 in recent weeks is probably a person who rents whatever you can get them for a profit.

This is not about "making a profit" and being bitter about the price being $800/ week, it's really about the nastiness of the people who expect weeks for $800, and you are offering something with a higher price tag. This is my beef. A person named Holysmokes, or something like that, asked for something crazy, and I offered it to them with a higher price, and they were so rude.

What I don't get is when I posted that I am willing to pay more than the maximum of $800 for something I need, and my post is moderated because it's breaking the rules. I want people not to chuckle or think I am crazy. I should be able to say, "Willing to pay more than $800."

That's what the TUG marketplace is for, why is it so hard for people to understand the difference with LMR?
It seems that people think they get better exposure in the LMR forum?

It's not hard for me to understand LMR...just agreeing that with comments on rampant inflation and increases in traveling costs overall a consideration for increasing the max for LMR is worth discussing.

Hard to block a poster that has a total of 23 posts. All 23 posts are for rental wanted LMR threads. Which means contributes nothing, but only wants. Noted, now on my ignore list.

That happened in Feb 2019, and yes, it was a long discussion. MF etc have escalated in a major way in the last 4-5 years.

The rules in the LMR wanted are completely clear (and the same as the LMR discounted to rent):

I do not understand the reason for the self-identified rant.

Could it be that some people are just a blind squirrel looking for a nut?

If you do not have something to offer at $115/night or $800/week, the Last Minute Timeshare Forum is not the place to go looking for customers, and then rant about customers who are unwilling to pay more than that. Seems that simple to me.

The rules in the LMR wanted are completely clear (and the same as the LMR discounted to rent):
The rules state "in public posts". Once a conversation goes to DM, any limits are off the table.

The rules state the "expectations" of the Forum on the buy and sell sides.

... so, keep the "rants" "off the table" and only in DMs. But I guess that is too simple.

There is atm a blind squirrel looking for a premium weeklong ski vacation in Park City, Tahoe, etc. at LMR pricing two days before before arrival. Ridiculous? sure, but asking costs nothing. Maybe someone has something at some price, but there is no reason to rant over the request or if the squirrel has no interest in anything above $115/night.

Two years back I had a premium ski week booked at Steamboat. Two days before travel, I came down with Covid and could not fly. Fortunately, I had E-Plus. But that's a good example of a nut for the searching blind squirrel.

If reading unrealistic asks really bother someone, don't read it. BUT I do understand the frustration

I guess I'm wondering how some people think to use LMR? It seems like some are looking at it as a normal rental forum, but at least to me, I very rarely end up traveling last minute, so it's like - I need to see a deal thats "too good to pass up" to just up and leave in 2 weeks or whatever. Getting flights would cost more etc. So to me I look at it like the "bargain basement" / "last chance" at a "going out of business" sort of sale. They're going to $0 in a very short time, less than 45 days, and often less than a week. So I'd kind of expect as that drop dead date got closer, getting "anything" for it vs nothing is in play.

But it sounds like some people have various weeks that could fufill the request but only at a higher price - which says to me it's more of a normal rental, or it's not actually expiring, which kind of doesn't fit *my* conception anyway. If it is expiring, then I'd be happy to take what I can get when there's likely few other renters biting. If it was easily rent-able at the higher price I'd presume you'd have done that pre 45 days out.

And someone asking, hey, do you have X that's otherwise going to go to waste / not get used at all for something over the guest certificate cost, I don't really see how that's insulting either. They're not (I don't think) coming to the general counter saying "I demand cheap price", they're saying in a specific forum "I can / need to travel on date X for a week and am willing to pay $xxx to stay if you've got no other use."

Also, remember that a lot of RCI last call inventory has gone for $199 a week...

From the beginning it was $700 for many, many years.
After much complaining a few years ago it was increased to the $800 mark.
My MF’s go up around 10% = $120 this year alone.

I’ve been chewed out trying to help someone find a stay more then once for messaging them and being over the limit on an offer.

I give up
