2022 SuperBowl Halftime Show

I'm not a fan of rap, so much of the show was wasted on me. I did watch it, and thought it was well choreographed, such as it was. Obviously a lot of time and effort was spent putting the show together. What I found most interesting was the relative ages of the performers. We were talking about it during the performance. Proof that time marches on, even for those who refuse to accept getting older.

Seeing the younger generation getting older makes it easier for me to accept that my generation is aging too. Except for me. I'm way too immature to be this age. :D

Dave

P.S. I thought the game was pretty good, too. I wasn't rooting for either team, since they aren't one of "my" teams, but on the whole, it was a pretty satisfying game.

Great roll models for our kids, can't count on both hands how many times they have been arrested. Not to mention violence against women and lyrics that would make sailors blush. But an excellent show otherwise.

Oh fergawdsake! As if when it comes to bad behavior and racy lyrics, rap/hip-hop artists couldn't just follow the path paved by artists/musicians of every genre that came before them!

At least M&M is from Detroit, so I will applaud that. Don't like Rap at all but as you said Sue just wait till next year it will change.

Now that's funny! His name is Eminem!

Gospel, easy listening, classical? and Motown?
Its nice to hear from you Denise, You have been pretty silent here for the last few weeks. :)

His name is Marshall Mathers I believe.
Marshall Bruce Mathers III in fact. Though his stage name is Eminem. He certainly isn't a bag of candy...

Remember the time when all the old people got mad about the way Jimi Hendrix played the National Anthem? Fun times!
Jimi Hendrix Star Spangled Banner

I’m not a rap fan either but I’m also 67 years old and realize a lot of people are younger than I and they do love rap and hip-hop. They’ve been waiting about 30 years for their music to be recognized in this way. More power to them!

Look, I know I'm a 65 year old, white guy who was not the target of the half-time show. BUT it hard to have a show that was targeted only to people who like rap. Then have so many in the media say WOW that was the best halftime show ever. REALLY?? Maybe if you like rap for for the rest of us it was really bad. And not the good kind of "bad".

I did not expect to like this halftime show. I ended up loving it. My 6 year old danced to it the entire time. She loves rap, amazingly.

BTW, since others are mentioning their favorite halftime shows. One of my favorites was Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. I love their dancing and showmanship. I also happen to love Shakira’s music. I think Shakira may also be for niche audiences.

I know some people that only watch the Super Bowl for the half time show and don't care about sports, football or the NFL ... o_O

This is me!

60yo WM Baby boomer here. For 30 years I have never appreciated Hip-hop music -- legit genre but just didn't appeal to me. Then recenty I saw Hamilton and I am now re-assessing. If all Rap is even half as intelligent then I've been missing something. The SB halftime show wasn't bad. I would have turned it off a few years ago.

My 29yo dtr liked the half time. She reminded me she was suppose to get back a cd of Eminems that I confiscated when she was a ~14yo teenager.
Her memory is bad as never intended to give it back and that it is long gone, best to get over the past

I appreciated the lack of nudity, the lack of vulgarity, and the lack of humping. That said - I couldn't understand a word that was said. The fact that 17% of the population commanded 100% of the show was a big statement by the NFL. I wouldn't mind a Country themed show one year. But, I don't think they take votes on the subject.

What 17% of the population? I think you're referring to the ethnic breakdown of the US population, particularly African Americans, but this isn't accurate. Both of my white sons listen to a lot of rap for example. They are millennials. With this in mind, I don't think an ethnic basis is an accurate assessment regarding the appeal of the half time show. Rap grew up under the Gen Xer's and matured in the Millennials (Gen Y) and now the Gen Zers. Here's a breakdown of the US by generational numbers:

Sorry Baby Boomers - but you're old school and outnumbered now - so it's no longer about you. Millennials now officially outnumber the Baby Boomer generation, and when combined with the Gen Z crowd - it's no contest. Expect more of what we saw in the half time show moving forward - the older generations are no longer going to be the focus, regardless of how anyone feels about it.

Thats becauseis all about the Money $$$. The baby boomers are now mostly retired " spending less"and unfortunately dying off, so its only common sense they follow the numbers and the spending.

I expect all we will ever get is the "fat Elvises" of the day.

It takes time to be famous enough for the "big guys" to think the act will draw a big audience.

Meanwhile, there are always "up and comers" on Youtube. . .

Didn't we get The Weeknd last year? He was as big a current marquee as you can get.

However, Baby Boomers will still control a majority of wealth for a long time. Boomers were much more frugal and likely to save money. The younger generations are more likely to spend a lot now at the expense of having money in the future. Of course, many are part of the Boomerang generation and keep moving back with their Boomer parents.

I actually liked last year's show because the performers were more talented musicians. I also thought the two performers this year did great renditions of the National Anthem and America the Beautiful.

Good point. Hamilton was fantastic!
