I haven't saved my HGVC points in about 4 years or so. But when I did, HGVC computer system would always use saved points first. Maybe it has changed?

In the DVC system, banked (saved in HGVC parlance) points can only be used in the next year for DVC reservations. With DVC you have to borrow points from future year, to use in current year, if you banked your points to next year.

Definitely very clear. No ambiguity here. This is about the fact that HGVC saved my points before they were supposed to based on the behavior for this option from prior years.. was supposed to happen with whatever was left over at year end. So, if I made another reservation in 2020, it would use 2020 points. Only the excess would be saved. That is how I understand it worked previously.

This time, however, they saved them immediately. Now, if I make a 2020 reservation, I can only borrow 2021 points and an equivalent amount of 2020 points stay in 2021 and can't be saved, and I don't think they can even be converted to HH points which is better than simply expiring. They will just die (I don't know enough about the RCI thing to want to do that).

So, by HGVC changing the rules, they have disadvantaged these points in a way that they did not do before. I would expect that, with a call, they would fix the problem they created with this change by allowing the 2020 reservation with the prematurely-banked 2020 points. I know it's not the way it normally works. I also know that thyey can override. I'm arguing that they should here since they created the problem with a rule change.

Cheers.

Saved points can only be used for reservations made within 6 months of occupancy.
Do you know if this is in the rules? I certainly didn't think that is the way it worked (but then again, I haven't experienced this often either).

Saved points can be used for any Club reservation, perhaps it was a property with a 6 month club season?

It was my home club--HCNY.

Maybe that’s why. They do have different rules than the regular HGVC and even bHC systems. I have been making several reservations 9 month out during the free booking period.

Saved points can only be used for reservations made within 6 months of occupancy. A few years ago I had saved points and was making a reservation in January for a July stay. I was told that I could not use saved points, but would have to use current year points since my request was for more than 6 months in advance. I said find, I'll call back later. I waited a couple of weeks and then called and made the reservation within the six months window. That may not be that easy with all the folks with 2020 points moved into 2021.

As a bHC and club points owner, I've never heard of this before. Perhaps this is another quirky HCNY rule?

I never heard that with in 6 moths occupancy statement. Do you mean that saved points from 2020 to 2021 can only be used fromJanuary thru June of 2021 not the last 6 months of the year?

No, what I mean is that I was told you can only make your reservations using saved points six months in advance. So, for example, if in February I wanted to make a reservation (using saved points) for September, I would not be able to do that. I would have to wait until March to make that reservation. I was told that if I wanted to make a reservation for longer than six months out, I would have to use the points for the current year, not my saved points from the previous year. It could be that this is unique to HCNY.

It must be. I have a reservation right now ending 276 days out using saved 2020 points.

I agree with @dayooper. I have never heard nor experience that before. I looked at the rules and don’t see any specific guidance in the rules. Honestly, I would ask to see that in the rules.

Well, I'll have a truckload or two of points left this year, so I'll try again. HCNY is different, but it shouldn't be THAT different.

Ok, that explains it because saved points can only be used in the club season window.
