HGVC: W. 57th, Vegas Strip
DVC: Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club villas
I haven't saved my HGVC points in about 4 years or so. But when I did, HGVC computer system would always use saved points first. Maybe it has changed?
In the DVC system, banked (saved in HGVC parlance) points can only be used in the next year for DVC reservations. With DVC you have to borrow points from future year, to use in current year, if you banked your points to next year.
Definitely very clear. No ambiguity here. This is about the fact that HGVC saved my points before they were supposed to based on the behavior for this option from prior years.. was supposed to happen with whatever was left over at year end. So, if I made another reservation in 2020, it would use 2020 points. Only the excess would be saved. That is how I understand it worked previously.
This time, however, they saved them immediately. Now, if I make a 2020 reservation, I can only borrow 2021 points and an equivalent amount of 2020 points stay in 2021 and can't be saved, and I don't think they can even be converted to HH points which is better than simply expiring. They will just die (I don't know enough about the RCI thing to want to do that).
So, by HGVC changing the rules, they have disadvantaged these points in a way that they did not do before. I would expect that, with a call, they would fix the problem they created with this change by allowing the 2020 reservation with the prematurely-banked 2020 points. I know it's not the way it normally works. I also know that thyey can override. I'm arguing that they should here since they created the problem with a rule change.
Cheers.
