[2009] SCAM WARNING - Beware Of Westgate Sales Group Rentals

I paid back in June and after a few attempts for confirmations I am wondering if he will follow through with my rentals. I paid $3,500 to him and I can't seem to get any kind of confirmation that I am booked through the resort. He just says he is waiting to hear back from the owners.

Holy molly! $3500??? Looks like he is cleaning up and will be disappear by the end of the year with a couple of 100 Gs in his pocket.

BTW, somebody needs to sue PayPal. They are another scam company. I think there is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen and I hope it does. They do deceptive marketing by telling you if you use PayPal you are covered up to $25,000 or whatever. All bogus. I learnt it the hard way. I got screwed by somebody on eBay. I paid $350 for an item and the seller disappeared and guess what PayPal does? They say they cannot recover anything from the person's checking account so case closed. Like the person would be stupid enough to be sitting there with money in their checking account for PayPal to grab. They make it extremely hard to pay by credit card. They always default to using your checking account because they lose money if you use a credit card. There is a tiny link somewhere hidden at the bottom that allows you to change the payment method to credit card. They do everything they can to stop you from using a credit card. If you have PayPal balance in your account you have to use it. You cannot use a credit card. So what is this bogus advertising about coverage in case of fraud??? I don't think they ever recover anybody's money. They always tell you they could not recover it.

I always make it a point to keep my PayPal balance at $0 and I always pay by Credit Card even if the amount is $1. Screw them!!!

I finaly reached a settlement with my CC company. they closed the dispute because the date of the promised rental (9/20/09) had not yet passed. I reopened the dispute last week and they sent me a letter today saying they were going to credit my account with the amount in Dispute. So it looks like I will be made whole finacialy, BUT I still want to see the SOB in Handcuffs! has anyone else had any feedback from anyone??? RT

Don't buy Florida

Some of these replies are pretty old and I don't know whether anyone has read them recently but I will post this anyway. Because the consumer fraud laws in some states are so weak I prefer not to deal with businesses in those states. Florida is one of them. Another one is Delaware. When I was studying economics I learned that many corporations set up shop in Delaware because it is literally impossible to go after them, if need be. Many of these companies set up dummy corporations in Delaware. It is the same in Florida. I have been ripped off by a Florida business once and that was enough for me. Unfortunately I was bequeathed some land in Florida which I must sell and I don't trust anyone in business there to deal with me on an honest level. I know that this is a blanket statement but do not buy anything that comes from Florida. Why do you think that some of these fraudulent businesses operate out of Florida? Because they know that they'll get away with their crimes. Florida has the Everglades and I wish that these guys would just crawl back in with the crime, slime and predators that come out of that state.

Does TUG qualify renters who respond to ads in Timeshare marketplace?

I wonder whether TUG qualifies renters who respond to ads in Timeshare marketplace. I have an ad seeking a rental and I have been getting multiple responses daily.

How can I ensure these renters are legitimate, especially since they are only providing an email, and not their TUG ID?

What is the best method to confirm the renter is legitimate? Thoughts please.

the marketplace is free and open to the public, you do not have to be a TUG member to view ads.

you only have to be a member to post an ad.

With the amount of traffic the marketplace recieves, it would easily be cut dramatically if it were limited to only tug members.

Thanks...

Thanks Brian. I understand what you are saying. The following questions remain...

however as I understand it, these scams came from people posting RENT WISH ads...ie posting want ads for timeshares to rent...and said scammers were offering them rentals that they didnt have by simply contacting them via email.

not the other way around.

Here are some of the ways I handle if someone wants to inquire maybe about renting from me and would be IMHO good questions for any renter to ask to try and help to check them out if they are approached to rent a rental.

I first let them know that I am one of the few that list their own real name, home phone number and home address in all of our ads were permitted. We even post them on our vr ebay ads and VTR ads were we have earned a 100% rating on both sites from our renters.

I am also willing to send a copy the latest paid maintenance fee. Of course I can not send a paid maintenance fee if is for a 2010 reservation as we have not paid them yet because most maintenance fees for 2010 have not been sent out us owners at this time.

I am willing on our resorts that do not send reservation confirmations to us as soon as we reserve them( if is a floating week) a copy of our deed. We are willing to send a copy of our deed with our account info whited out for our security reasons.

The same would hold true for one of our deeded weeks like our fixed week 26 at our Rushes in Door County.

If it is for our floating weeks our our Lindo Mar Resort or like our Christmas Mountain or other Bluegreen reservations and our other resorts, we send them a copy of the confirmed reservations. Like shown father below.

In fact I have given permission to the Christmas Mountain front desk to verify to any one who calls that any one of our about 48 reservations is in fact reservered by us for the unit and date listed all of our ads, including our Tug Market Place ads. If it happens to be a Newer front desk employee that will not give the info I ask the renter to get that persons name so I can get the front desk manager to tell that new person it is OK to provide that info.

Here is one copy ( of many) of a confirmation what I post on the rental sites were they provide enough space to post it along with our detailed rental agreements.

Bruce :D
