When I was a kid the Dave Clark Five came out with a song titled "Bits and Pieces." It had a catchy tune and received a fair amount of air time on the radio. I could never understand why the song had that title because I never heard it sung in the lyrics. And why did they keep singing, "sittin' at the cheese stand, sittin' at the cheese stand?"

Or when I was a teenager the Rascals singing "You and me and Leslie groovin'". Which triggered much discussion of the Rascals slipping a lyric about a threesome past the censors, and what type of threesome it was since it wasn't clear if Leslie was a girl or a boy.

Wonderful! As a child, I had an album that had a Spanish song on it and not knowing Spanish I thought is said, "When you goin' give us chocolate cake, her mo a sa?" I guess it's easy to hear what you know, but I would never have heard those hysterical lyrics if I hadn't seen the words and illustrations.

Since I read this thread, I have discovered yet another way to waste time: watching misheard lyrics videos on YouTube!

There seem to be a ton of these videos with misheard lyrics. Unfortunately, a lot of them are either not that funny, or too lewd to link to here. But, after watching a whole bunch, I did find a couple good ones:

Not surprisingly, the best ones seem to feature songs that had pretty unintelligible lyrics to start with. (Given that, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" sounds like it would be ideal for a misheard lyrics video, and I did find several based on it, but they all have the problem that the misheard lyrics made at least as much sense as the real ones!)

DD is watching Little Mermaid. She is looking forward to the broadway musical production. Anyway, I always hear Ariel singing "pregnant women, sick of swimming, ready to stand." I've looked up the lyrics and I know she is singing "bright young women ..." but it still sounds like "pregnant women" to me.
