I figured I could get past ROFR at $4. Who knows?

To us, the most valuable perk of getting to Presidential would be the discount at 60 days in advance.

What's the Puck trick? If I were inventing a trick, it might be to book the cheap five days first, planning to move to a Courtyard or Springhill for the weekend. Then book the weekend days at 60 days out with the 30% discount, cancelling the hotel.

Puck Trick is booking ressie to secure it then cancelling and rebooking inside of 60 days so discounted points go to your Holding Account for use on more Puck Trick ressies in the future. Always using Holding Account points first when doing the rebook inside of 60 days.

Cool.

This should be able to be done all on-line, right? (I think I've cancelled reservations online before.)

Do you have to cancel before you rebook?

As far as I know, must call to cancel. Get the agent to put your ressie on hold, cancel, and rebook with the points you just cancelled. The balance goes into your holding account (30%). For me, I used borrowed points so they are good until the following year end.
