Ahh...yes. I didn't think of that. But half the maintenance fees. I'm just thinking that I could better afford an every other and would still have my Bluegreen points for every year travel. I mainly want a great trader within Marriott and II. One that will take me to the best resorts at the best times of year. Every other would be OK if there are no other downsides.
 
Some may also consider them to be harder to resell.

If you buy a 2BR lock-off and deposit 12 months before check-in - you will have a 3 year window to travel.
So you could still visit a Marriott every year if you desire...and depending on what you buy, you would also get a accommodation cert from II that will give you another week of travel - this is good for 12 months from date of deposit.

Consider your closing costs into your purchase price.
 
We bought SR/CV as a matched set with offsetting EOY use. That way we could alternate between the two without the expense and hassle of trading. The cost to trade quickly offsets the extra closing costs.

If you buy one EOY you can lock off your villa, deposit into II for use the following year, and go every year on half the maintenance fees.

Trying to let that sink in. Are you saying I could deposit the whole every/other lockout unit 12 months out with II and then would have a 3 year travel window to choose something else (possibly 2 weeks over three years, 1week for each side of the lockout) through II and if my unit is a good enough, i.e., location/season, II might also give me another week?

Hmmm...which resort/season/size would give me this? And what if I need a 2 bedroom unit each time?
 
Not exactly. If you buy a lock-off, you can split it and deposit the two separate units (the 1BR and the studio) with II. Thus, for example, if you currently owned a lock-off week, you could split it and reserve two separate weeks for 2009 through Marriott Owner Services. You can deposit each of those two reserved weeks with II. Each deposit can be exchanged for a week's stay at your home resort or at another timeshare. Thus, by depositing two weeks every other year, you'll have enough deposited weeks to take a timeshare vacation every year.

In addition to getting those exchanges, if your 1BR deposit is for a strong enough week, II might give you an AC, which woulkd give you a thrd week (!) every other year.

II allows you to exchange for travel dates as late as two years after the date of the week you deposited. Thus, if today you reserved for an early November 2009 week and deposited that week, you would have until early November 2011 to confirm an exchange and travel.

OP - if you NEED a 2BR all the time, the lock-off and split won't work for you - SOMETIMES you can get a bigger unit but if you absolutely need a 2BR - then it wouldn't work.

Check out the thread on this board regarding which resorts and season get offered ACs or bonus week from II.

Most 3 BR lock-offs lock out into a 2 BR and a studio unit. MGC is the only exception I know if that locks off into a 2 BR and a 1BR. Either or both sides can be deposited into II and, in the case of MGC, you may be eligible for an AC for either side and in the case of all others, if an AC is available for your resort/dates, it will only be granted for the 2 BR deposit.
