You must be so disappointed, :( but I'm so glad SVO and the airline made it right. What size unit did you lose?

Have you decided what you are going to do?

I had a small one bedroom booked I was going for the weekend fri- mon. My parents were staying the rest of the week .I'm just going to deposit it with II. Were keeping our fingers crossed it dosn't hit home but it dosn't look good. I may use it to leave town if Ike hits South florida Hard.

I gonna be calling Vistana to see what I can do with changing dates tomorrow. I'm not especially worried about Hanna at this point, but IKE looks to be a PITA.

We're flying with UnitedAL and their site says they'll give us a change without penalty (because of hanna), so now I guess it's up to Starwood. I'm not sure how fun it would be in that area now with all the activity anyhow so I may be willing to take a loss if necessary and maybe try for a week in Dec. Problem will be that our SVN membership (and II membership) won't be effective till 1/1/09. We let RCI drop since we'll be in II soon, so it'll probably be use it b4 the new year or lose it

Such a pain when 4 peoples schedules are involved and college starts soon.

I am at WPORV right now and I talked to three families today that were supposed to be at HRA. They all rebooked last minute to come here because of Hannah but Ike looks much worse! We were at HRA last year from Sept 1-11 and we had perfect weather except for 2 hours of rain one day; you just never know during hurricane season. I hope that it gets better soon for all of you with HRA travel plans.

Is this your first visit to WPORV? What do you think? How's your view????

Yes this is our first trip to WPROV. The resort is nice; it seems much more spread out than WKORV (more similar to WKV but with more pools). I would guess that the occupancy is about 20% which is very nice. The pools and chairs seem plentiful but it is hard to figure what it would be like at full occupancy. The weather has been perfect all week. The resort has many activities (wii contest, free tatoos, wine tasting, necklace making, movie night, etc.) The staff has been very friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant is just ok. I ran (be very careful) down to the beach via the access path and it isn't very far at all. The beach is nice (no waves though) and I was the only person at the entire beach! The view from our room is very nice (7313- 1BR- similar views to the ones that Ken posted earlier this week) and we reserved at 12 months out and checked in on Sunday. I would say that to me the two biggest weaknesses of the resort are poor beach access and no swim up bar (but I knew about both of these things before we bought). This will be a nice place to come every year.

As of this morning Atlantis is advising all guests to leave bu Sunday morning--not all are complying--I think the the 12th this may have passed and hopefully there won't be too much damage but the poster I know on TA says they are expecting it to be bad and she is a resident there.

Actually as of this morning the path looks a bit better for Paradise Island...the track is definitely further south near Cuba - parts of the Bahamas have the 'pink' warning....

And Nassau and Paradise island are above the "u" in "Tue" on the map to the right of the big island and isn't even in the 'cone'.....yet!
I am trying to be optimistic

Here's hoping ...... :hi:

Yesterday, there was a severe weather advisory on Mystarcentral.com for Harborside, the 3 Florida TS and Myrtle Beach. This morning that advisory doesn't open when you click on it. I don't know what that means. I'll keep checking back.

We are working on alternative plans, knowing that Josephine is on the heels of Ike. I'm so sorry for all of those who were supposed to be there this coming week.

We had a storm here in the Phoenix area last week that the weatherman said had all the elements of a hurricane except a name. It lasted several hours, with winds up to 100mph. It was a little scary, and kinda cool. It gave me somewhat of an appreciation for what the people who live in hurricane territory feel. It was novel for me as it's such a rare occurence here. I can only imagine how frightening it must be in areas where heavy flooding can occur and threaten lives. Good luck to all of you in the path of these storms. We're thinking of you.

I was able to open the link here.....

This is a Severe Weather Travel Advisory for the Harborside Resort at Atlantis, located on Paradise Island, The Bahamas regarding implications of Hurricane Ike.

We would like to inform you that Hurricane Ike will threaten Paradise Island and Nassau (Northewestern Bahamas) within the next 3 days. It is forecasted that once the storm reaches the resort area, it will be a Category 3 Hurricane with winds between 111 - 130 mph. This is a major hurricane.

Given the severe intensity and potential direction of this dangerous storm, Harborside Resort at Atlantis anticipates that weather will severely deteriorate as early as late Saturday or early Sunday morning. As a precautionary measure, for your personal safety and the safety of your traveling party, if your reservation is scheduled anytime within the affected storm period of Sunday night Sept 7th through Wed Sept 10th, we are requesting that you find an alternative destination that is not directly in the path of this storm.

As such, we are requesting that owners with reservations to Harborside Resort during this timeframe contact Owner Services as soon as possible to make alternate vacation plans at 877-782-7496.

User error...I figured out why I couldn't see the warning erlier. It looks like better news now.

"We would like to inform you that the direct threat by Hurricane Ike seems to have passed for the North Eastern Bahamas. Currently the storm is a Category 3 Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph. This is still a major hurricane.

Harborside Resort at Atlantis remains open at this time. However, we encouraged you to monitor local weather reports and check the status of your flight before leaving for the airport.

Please be advised, this storm continues to change frequently so we urge you to follow the storms progress. Should you decide to alter your reservations, please contact Owner Services at 877-782-7496."

I also read the Josephine has weakened, and it's path does not appear to affect the Bahamas any way. I'll be on pins and needles all week!

Josephine is not heading toward the Bahamas - it is going north toward Bermuda

Hope to see you there, too! I'll be in a group of 7 with my husband, 17-yr old son, 2 married daughters and their hubbies and grandbaby Wes. Our spot to hang out will probably be at the lazy river entrance near the Splashers children's pool. If you see us, come say hi!

I know several people here had jumped on the trades and the Getaways they had for this week and the following few weeks last Fall and must be very disappointed.

It is funny how things work out sometimes- I had bought a Getaway for Harborside and was supposed to leave today with friends, but we landed up canceling months ago because my Dad unfortunately died over the winter so I wouldn't travel this year and our friends just became first time grandparents (the baby landed up being a few weeks early, but they weren't about to be away when their grandchild was due). Luckily, we had purchased TravelGuard Insurance and they were wonderful to deal with. Bur it is kinda weird to see that the trip would have been canceled anyway....

I'll keep an eye out for you. Actually, the area near the kiddie pool this time of year doesn't seem to be too bad. This is where we hung out last year when it was me and 2 girlfriends for the week. It just happened to be a pretty deserted area and we came back to it every day. Have a great time!

I read this morning that Josephine is now a tropical depression and expected to continue to weaken. Yay!:whoopie:

People were checking in on the 5th when we were checking out but were being advised that they would have to move into the convention center Sunday (today) a.m. until Ike passed. I don't know if Ike's more southerly track would have changed those plans.
