A Sock and a Shoe or Two Socks First?

left sock, right sock left shoe, right shoe I always wondered why I put the left one on first since I'm right handed. Sandals, I usually put them on the floor in front of me and step in left foot first.

socks first, starting with right.

I thought we were supposed to avoid discussing controversial soxial issues here on TUG.

Shoes first...

First shoes, then socks...

I like to keep the shine fresh ;)

hmmm... Left sock first ~ Right handed?

Can't Believe I actually thought about this today.

Are you right sock first folks left handed?

My own: Left Sock, Right Sock, Left Shoe, Right Shoe.

My 5yo: one sock first (whichever foot I can grab first), followed by that shoe. Then the other sock and shoe. Otherwise one sock comes off while I'm putting that shoe on, or she runs away and gets the socks dirty before the shoes are on.

I'm left-handed, and I usually do the left foot first. (But I am right-footed - maybe that makes a difference?)

I'm right handed, and I put on my right sock and my right shoe first.

To add another angle to this important topic, my husband does something that is very strange. He doesn't sit down to put on his socks, instead, he kneels with one knee down and one foot down and pulls the sock over the foot that's on the floor. Then he switches and puts the other foot down and repeats the process. He is 56, so getting up and down from this position is not the snap it once was. He's just weird! :D

Oh - when we were visiting our cousins in Maine and they wanted the kids to put on their shoes and socks they said, "Dress your feet." That was a new one to me!

Left sock, right sock, left shoe, right shoe, left gal- what's singular for galoshes? It's been raining cats and dogs all weekend.

My DH stands up when he puts his sox on. I think he just wants to prove to me that he can do it and I can't.:D

Maybe my mom did that too, which would explain my doing it the way Mel does with her 5yo.

As for the left hand question, nope, I'm right handed doing my right foot first with the sock. It has more to do with the fact that my left knee is very gimpy . . . and also why I thought I did the shoe immediately after that left sock.

You put your shoes on right after your socks?

I put my socks on, run around the house for awhile, then put my shoes on before going out the door.

Yep, the only reason I ever put on socks is if I'm going out and wearing shoes :) Otherwise, I'm in slippers, sandals or barefoot.

I don't think I'm consistent in this category. Now I'm going to have to try to catch myself in the middle of the process so as not to skew the results 'cause just thinking about it, I think I remember doing all the above mentioned permutations (except "shoes first, then socks!")

Eeeeee, what does THAT say about me?

Interesting - ever since I started reading this thread I've been watching myself how I do it, and it's always right sock, right shoe, then left sock, left shoe.

If I'm putting on sneakers, it's right sock, sneaker, left sock, sneaker. If it's dress shoes with knee highs or boots with socks, it's both socks and then shoes. I have no idea why. I actually had to go put on a pair of socks to figure out which side I started with and I'm not even sure it's correct. I'll have to check the next time I'm not thinking about it.

You have no idea the problems I have had since reading your post. I always thought I was rt sock, left sock, shoe shoe. My life has been turned upside down cuz in the past 5 days I have done it 3 different ways. Life will never be the same for me:D

I have been watching myself for the last few days. I am a left sock, left insert put in the shoe and then left shoe and then right sock, right insert put in the shoe and then right shoe type of person about 90% of the time.

Lately it's one sock and then both shoes.

An infection in two toes has me ordered to keep a sock on but not to wear closed toe shoes. So, I'm wearing my Birkies with one sock on one foot and no sock on the other.

On a normal day, however, I never paid attention and have probably done both.

I've been watching this thread for a while amazed. But finally, I can't let it go.

Is ours the only family that don't wear shoes in the house?

When I'm getting dressed in the AM, I put on socks; right then left (usually). Later (perhaps much later) when leaving the house, I go through the garage and put on my shoes. Right foot on, left foot on, tie right shoe, tie left shoe (again, usually).

Both socks first, starting with the left. Then shoes, left one first. And I don't know why....
