Ok, call us crazy ... our journey to 1 million HH points via HGV Owner Updates ...

I mean you never buy anything from them. Correct?
He might buy something at the right price. HGV just doesn't offer the right price (of course, they would need to be offering resale pricing).

I still don't understand why Hilton hasn't flagged JohnnyO's account? I mean you never buy anything from them. Correct?
I bought a HGVC MarBrisa 4,000 point EOY Gold week studio back in 2014. I also bought 57,500 HGVC points (resale) from the official HGV office Scotland. I am Legacy Elite Premier. 70% of my annual 81,340 HGVC points purchased directly from HGV. The other 30% were Grand Pacific Resorts which converted to HGVC points upon purchase at MarBrisa. I'm open to the right offer. Just haven't negotiated it yet.

What do you do with that many points? Stay a couple of days at Great Wolf Lodge?

Some HGVC TUG members have more than 81K HGVC points. The answer would be traveling to HGVC resorts. I will never use HGVC points for Great Wolf Lodge or any other non-HGVC stay (such as a cruise, tour, sailboat, motorcycle, camper, etc.)

What he said. I use my points to stay on Billionaire’s Street in NYC in penthouse rooms with breakfast and evening snacks included along with daily housekeeping. I’ve used home weeks in ThirdHome to go to Europe in vacation homes for fabulous all in prices. I would not use my points to book much else through HVC because I can do math.

The Great Wolf suggestion was a joke. I want to know who uses their points there? Just people who want to burn them? The absolute worst redemption rate I have ever seen.

Can one get a couple of days at GWL for that few points? I may need to step up my game and acquire more HGVC and HH points.
I suspect the only reason they did that is to show buyers they have places available in most states.

We go on 1 - 2 owner updates a year at either HGVC or Vistana/Marriott. That's the limit of what we can tolerate. We won't do it for less than $300 or $350. We rarely go for points unless it is 150k or above. Not worth our time for under these threshholds. We may do a preso if they offer at MVC Spain because I want to know requalifying costs and may consider.

MVCs can't do requals of Vistana deeds. MVC Spain can (and does) do enrollment of resale MVC deeds.

$350 is pretty darn good. Great job on the time too. Best we have had in dollar amounts just happened in Cabo where we got a free breakfast and $450 USD cash at the end of 90 mins. We may start taking cash if the offers get this high. Points are great but we have about two million HH points and have burned through about 1.5 million HH in the last year and a half. Always worried about devaluation of the dollar and the HH points.
Thanks for the compliment and it is coming from the master of OU himself!

Have not been able to wrangle an owners update at Hilton Hawaiian Village after the first one because I am a resale only owner. Actually I also got turned down at The Residences a couple years ago for OU. I accepted their offer and then got a call saying I was mistakenly booked.

Heading to NYC for the weekend. Got 1 bedroom at The Residences. Well, technically, we spend first night at Waldorf on a FNC where we’ve already been upgraded to a suite, which is great!

I digress

So, go the call for an update. They offered DW 60k points. She laughed and said no, nothing less than 100k. So the booker went to work and ended up calling me how the highest they can go is 80k, but “she went to corporate and got something only for us” and got 90k

I laughed and said no.

What was wierd was how hard she was selling me in the update. Like, rudely hard. And wierd negotiations too “look what I did for you” and “you are 50% more than the normal offer”. I told her 90 is less than 100 and not worth my time.

She kept at it, I said nothing less than 100, and should really be 150k, she then hung up on me.

Just odd.

She is incentivized to book as many OU as she can for guests. Every OU booked adds more to her paycheck.

HGVC recently removed the percentage if sales portion of compensation for the body snatchers; now it’s just an hourly wage plus an incentive per tour. That would definitely lead to the situation mentioned by @muscae.

Be sure to prime Franco at The District as we’re coming in. I think we got 100k HH last visit plus 40k for our son to NOT show up after they promised him 75k. Get some @Eric B. Right behind you.

OMG, how can you use up all these points every year?

Are you saying that the body snatchers used to receive a percentage of the sales price if a person was to purchase while at the presentation? I always thought that marketing had a fixed budget with each gift/incentive tied to a dollar amount. The difference between their budget and the cost of the gifts was their bonus on top of an hourly wage. The higher the gifts the lower their bonus.

They did until recently, or so I’ve been told. At HGVC, the bonus amounts are budgeted with a marketing manager able to approve exceptions while the body snatchers are paid an hourly wage plus an incentive per tour now. It might vary by region.

Previously, this incentivized them to book “quality” customers that would be more likely to buy in their estimation. The incentives were set based on some criteria, including whether you ever bought retail. It’s possible that they’ve started relying more on the use of predictions on likelihood of purchase using AI or some other means and don’t feel they need to incentivize the body snatchers to screen as much. 🤷‍♂️

I have been told many times at Ocean Oak, especially that they are using AI to determine the gift.
