I recently received a Reservation Vacation Certificate (RVC) from Wyndham because my week 21
will not be available due to resort renovations. This certificate is completely unacceptable
because it does not offer a comparable unit in the same time frame and other units
require an additional charge. I have written to the Owners Association but have not
received a response. Has anyone else had any experience with this RVC or anything similar?

Hi William.

I have never received a Wyndham Reservation Vacation Certificate, nor am I a Wyndham owner, so I don't know what the "normal" compensation for something like this may have been in the past. But it seems unfair for your ownership entity to not put you back as close to the same position as you were before. And I believe that's particularly true since the renovation seems NOT to be something forced upon them by a hurricane or whatever, but due to their simply having decided to schedule it when they're scheduling it.

I mention "hurricane" to tell you what happened to all timeshare owners in Fort Myers Beach as a result of its 2022 or so mega-destructive hurricane. All owners at each timeshare resort on the island were told that we had to pay for any and all repairs to our timeshare complexes, as well as paying for ongoing maintenance, even if we couldn't use our units. Some people therefore had to pay three years worth of maintenance fees PLUS tacked-on significant special assessments, despite never having the opportunity to stay in their deeded units. We were told that being able to USE your unit is a luxury, to be provided only when possible. PAYING FOR your unit and the overall timeshare complex's maintenance and renovation is a necessity.

That said, it seems to me that the optional renovations being undertaken at the Inn on the Harbor is not due to a "force of God", and should be compensated appropriately. In fact, why are they doing any and all renovations during early summer and no doubt later into the summer when the later fall, winter, and early spring are definitely the slow seasons in Newport, RI? I sympathize with your dilemma.

We had a resort in Vermont years ago that closed for renovations. I had put a vacation exchange request from RCI .
RCI tried to cancel my exchange, I talked to a supervisor told her I paid my fees and membership so They did agree to honor my exchange. It wasn’t my fault that the resort closed.
I know this is different from your resort, but I feel you should be compensated with the same value as what you own.
Safe travels

I don't know the restrictions on the certificate, but I do know that in the Wyndham points system week 21 is not in prime season, it's a notch down in high season. If you own the suite style rather than the 1 BR Plus, that's another downgrade that would limit the value of a trade.

At Sea Gardens in FL there was a recent renovation at one hoa where a owner complained that she didn't receive anything. In a different hoe, when my unit wasn't available because of storm damage, I was given a different unit because I'm in the point system.

It was announced last year that it would be closed from Nov - May so I'm surprised that you didn't get the certificate earlier.

Anyone stayed in one of the renovated rooms here? I'm curious.

I’m here now but was never on this part of the hotel before (always stayed at the main long wharf). Everything looks new so I imagine it’s renovated. The rooms nice. Odd layout. Like you walk in to the bedroom in the room I am in. Kitchen is small. No dishwater or oven. Two countertop burners. Bed is nice (king). Jetted tub / shower combo. Living /dining room has a beautiful view (again not sure why it’s not the bedroom, but I guess for lighting reasons). Laundry room stinks. Old machines that hardly work. Walked to the main building.

The op is talking about Inn On The Harbor which is closed and is on Thames St near Wyndham Onshore, not Inn On Long Wharf.

Well, then that’s me Review of the inn at long wharf lol.

There are some 1 BR units, but most of the units at Inn On The Harbor are suites similar to Inn On Long Wharf where you enter the unit into the bedroom, then walk past the bathroom and small kitchen to the living room and dining area. I never stayed in the 1 BR Plus.
