If this plays out the way it should, I will end up getting the whole year's worth of points and only have to pay 3-4 months of MF. Last one of these I did, I initiated in April, it transferred in late July, and I got the entire year's worth of points and a little more than 2 months to use them. Maybe do some Presidentials.

Good catch! I saw that listing two or three days ago while sniffing around on eBay. Just in case I want to replace some or all of the 350,000 points at OIRC that I'll lose come 1/1/26.

Didn't think it would sell for the $1.00, though.

Yeah, the $1 was a shocker. I actually misread the listing and thought seller was paying title and wyndham transfer, so I thought I actually got it for $1 all in

pps eta: fwiw - "Things have changed" from 2015. 490,000 Club Wyndham Access is selling for $1, now. (Imagine that back in 2015 when someone posted a thread "Don't tell me prices aren't up" in the Club Wyndham forum. )

"Things changed" years ago. Check out these $37, $44, $537 (all in) for 1,100,000+ CWA ebay auctions from 2022.

The real indicator for the market price, I think, is the price of Club Wyndham Access. Those contracts, for some reason, have been attracting the bids. When 350,000 CWA contracts start appearing on EBay for under $1000 all-in, then things have changed...

Who was Ron? Using ones points to book what they want is not ripping off owners. That is business. Exactly what the sales people said and were educated to say by their bosses. Don't hate the player hate the game.

Do 3 bedroom presidential units have priority to auto upgrade to 4 bedroom presidentials? So if I had all the 3 bedroom presidential units at a resort and canceled a 4 bedroom presidential it would upgrade to me?

Are the resorts closing December 31 really closing December 31 or say January 2nd?

Ron is Ron Parise, a legend from back a few years. A legendary bad buy to some. A prolific poster. Ron knew Wyndham's system better than Wyndham, which got Wyndham all honked off so they busted him. A lot of changes in how Wyndham works are the result of Ron's doings, some of which were admittedly outrageous. Example: He was pulling points from the next two years into the current year, using the points, and selling the stripped contracts. Sold some of them back to Wyndham. He fully disclosed that the contracts had no points for the next two use years.

I wasn't sure I wanted the auction that closed at $1.00, which is why I didn't bid. I'm old enough to know how eBay auctions work and old enough to make bid/no bid decisions, thanks!

Cancel/rebook is not dead. But it's on a respirator. I've had some success but not enough to cancel a much-wanted reservation when there is no back-up available. Examples: 2BR Presidential at Clearwater Beach January 3-10; 2BR Presidential at Bonnet Creek February 7-21. By the way, those two reservations cost a total of 1,007,500 points so I'd love a 60% discount on either or both. I can't really expect an upgrade at either resort -- not at Clearwater Beach because it is so difficult to book that cancellations are unlikely and not at Bonnet Creek because the probability of two consecutive weeks opening all at once is near zero.

I don't think there's anyone on TUG who knows for certain how auto upgrade works. Or if it works in some cases. We think we know how it should work. At Bonnet Creek, what upgrade option do I select if I am booking a 2BR Presidential and want to upgrade to a 3BR Presidential but not a 3BR Deluxe? Can't be Larger Unit because I might get a 3BR Deluxe. That leaves Presidential Unit, which I already have. Will the upgrade routine say that dumba$$ already has a Presidential unit?

I have a couple of reservations I'm hoping will upgrade in ten days: Emerald Grande (1 BR -> 3BR Pool View) and Panama City Beach (Studio LL -> 2BR Presidential) both starting February 21, 2026.

I can only speak about OIRC, which will stay open through January 3, 2026 to honor weeks starting December 27, 2025.

I'd be beaucoup cheesed off too.

Ron was a TUG member who was one of, if not the biggest Mega Renter. There was at one point an error in the website back a long time ago that he found if you booked a stay at a discount inside your discount window, and then cancelled it, it would refund the full points cost of the stay.

He (allegedly) did this to the tune of millions of points, and used the proceeds to make bookings in essence for free, and rent them for profit. He would also buy contracts, use all the current use year points for bookings, then also use all of the next use year's points (borrow) and then sell the contracts which were essentially useless for a year. Wyndham made another change that doesn't allow you to sell a contract with a negative balance for future use years.

Him and some of his corhorts were eventually discovered, and it ultimately led to him and others losing their ownership. And also led to many changes in the Wyndham booking system, probably up to and including Wyndham ending the loophole where if you were a VIP, you could use your resale points with VIP booking privileges.

I'm sure he helped people here to some degree, but he also caused a lot of damage to the ownership in general. He was kind of the "Mega renter's pied piper".

Basically identical to how you can request an auto-upgrade from an Accessible unit - the system asks you if you want to upgrade only into another larger Accessible unit - or not. Same concept - have the system ask you if you only want to upgrade to another Presidential unit or not. Doesn't seem all that difficult to me, but then again, what do I know LOL. I will bring it up again as a product enhancement and see if we have any more success the second time around.

Craig, Wyndham is a moving target now. They don't want anyone to know how to play the system moving forward.

Ron played his hand well. Everything he did was within a owners right. Wyndham encouraged the rentals, but Ron just took it to another level.

I think we can all admit the VIP on resale loophole was a loophole we all used if possible. I'm not faulting him for that.

I can fault him for (allegedly, even though he openly admitted to it) defrauding the points bank system.

Yes, the website "let" him do it. But just like if a broken coke machine dispensed sodas for free, and you repeatedly "exploited the loophole", it's still theft and he profited off of it. I blame "them" (because he wasn't the only one who did it, i'm sure) not for making money, but for fabricating points, using those points to book and take stays away from other owners.

This is undenyable. And it's weird revisionist history to say otherwise.

Ultimately his, and others actions led Wyndham to make changes to the booking process that ultimately hurt owners. Using resale points with VIP was eventually going to end, but the mega renters no doubt hastened that.

It was never listed in member directory as a VIP benefit. Using VIP benefits on developer bought points only was called out in directory.
