Parking at Hilton Hawaiian Village

People drive into Manhattan during rush hour rather than take public transporation. The bridges going into Manhattan are famous for having 30-45 minute wait times during rush hour, and then they have the concern about parking which can cost $50 or more per day.
Congestion pricing has led to a serious reduction in this. We go to NYC often and subways are the way to go. That and walking. But we stay in the subway-accessible parts of town for the most part.

Cheers.

I did some walking around and here is what I learned about the different lots.

HHV Self Parking - $69/day plus tax with in and out.
Ilikai Marina Garage - $33/day plus tax with in and out. You can buy anywhere from 1 to 5 nights at a time at the machine.
Ala Wai Boat Harbor Parking Lot - They have machines and QR codes. Though the QR codes are on signs that are affixed way up on the light poles. $1/hour. $24/day. 24 hours max. I suspect you can just re-up your time if you park longer than 24 hours. I don't see why you wouldn't have in/out privileges as I don't think you are indicating a space number when you pay. Just your license plate. The lot is not gated. It also looks like there might be a monthly permit available for $150 plus tax.
Hale Koa Parking - $225 monthly parking permit but there is an additional $10 admin fee when you initially purchase. So $235 total. No tax.

It is all about perceived value. Like paying shipping costs on package delivery of that online order, people don't see value from a parking fee.
I am not sure it is really logical, but I am more willing to pay for parking in a garage vs a big open surface lot. I really feel like I am getting ripped off when asked to pay for parking at a random hotel outside of the city center with a flat lot.

That is good info, I don't think the Ilikai garage gets mentioned that much, and at least to me, the option to pay for multiple days with in and out privileges seems attractive.

note line 20 is being discontinued after the Skyline light rail westbound extension opens 10/1. it's being replaced with a proposed W line which might no longer turn on Kalia st but I imagine would stop near HHV. Bus frequency is going up considerably which is a good thing.

I like the bus (and The Bus) but it doesn't go near my family's place so we need a car in HNL.

I haven't heard about the discontinuation of the 20. Perhaps it will no longer go to meet the Skyline like it does now. The 20 goes to the Airport and many other important places like the Dole Canery, Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, Lowers. It stops right outside our Condo so it is very important to us. There are W1, W2, and W3 right now that are work buses for the workers that live far outside of Honolulu to get to Waikiki for work.

When you say that the BUS doesn't go near you families place where is that? While the BUS lines go only once a hour to certain places on Oahu and stops at about 8 PM at night I believe it goes to almost all of the habital places on Oahu.

i emailed them and new routes aren't finalized yet. the proposed W does go to the airport and matches a lot of 20 but differs in one important way (for this board) by not turning on Kalia Rd. Bus frequency and hours will both improve with the changes (later at night!). We have a stay in October after the new routes start and new Skyline section opens and will be traveling without kids for at least a few days so we might go without a car at least a couple days.

My family lives in Kahala and it's about half a mile plus walk from their place to the bus stop, which is too far considering we're often schlepping food with us. I suppose we could bring some kind of cart with us from the mainland but at that point it ceases to be fun and feels more like cosplaying a homeless guy...

Maybe I missed it, HHV Self Park is?

Right now no buses turn on Kalia Rd. anyway so maybe this is a temporary fix while Kalia Rd is under construction. Whether they call it 20 or W is insignificant.

That is a bummer that your family lives in Kahala and it is over 1/2 mile to a bus stop. We have 2 buses that stop about 100 feet from our Condo and 2 other buses that stop about 2 short blocks away. We bought our Condo in this location since we knew we didn't need a car.
