[ 2020 ] Daylight-saving time is an archaic, unhealthy and stupid ritual.

I just don't know anyone who gets this wound up about DST. I really don't care one way or the other.
Falling back is much better than the spring forward...

We don't change time in Saskatchewan where I live half of the year or Arizona where I live the other half. But I still have to keep track of what the Provinces/States next to me are doing. PITA

That only matters if you're thoughtful.

Whenever a volcano erupts, people call me at 3am because they have no idea how time zones work, how a globe works, or how gravity works.

"Are you OK?!?!??!!?"

Other than insomnia, I suppose...

It is for travel to Hawaii. I can handle the two hour time difference better than the three. I feel sorry for the East Coast travelers going to Hawaii with the six hour difference before the fall change. I guess five hours is as bad as six.

The clock time is 6:53 AM but the body time is 7:53AM. LOL

Actually, thanks to modern technology, adjusting clocks is the least of the problem and I have no preference for either DST or EST.

Just pick one or the other and run with it.

For individuals or business locations with a footprint in one area it is normally not a problem to adjust clocks. With the advent of cloud based phone systems, business's with footprints in locations that do not follow the 4 time zone proto call, and swap DST to EST like the rest of the country it can be a big problem. Some companies in Arizona always have clock problems. This may seem insignificant but it affects time stamps on message systems, accounting systems and so on. Picking one would and having it be universal would be the easiest to deal with but living up north having the time change helps a lot in my opinion.

What I don't understand in the Scientific folks who say the switch from DLST to ST is unhealthy, is how much damage have I done to myself in traveling to Europe for 3-4 weeks at a time with a 9 hour time difference. Or the trip to Kansas City I am making tomorrow, with a 2 hour time change, or an upcoming 2 week trip to Hawaii with a 3 hour time difference. Can anyone help explain the difference? If I were to move to Colorado it would be the same. It seems to me that there is too much concern with health questions.

The 13 hour time difference between Toronto and South Korea, where our son, DIL and grandkids live, is now 14 hours! ‍

Exactly! In N. America, whether you live in a region that observes DST or not, you still have to be aware of when DST kicks in and when it ends because you likely have friends and relatives who live in those areas and you still have to make adjustments accordingly.

I think you forgot to give all of us your phone number so we can join the list of people calling you for volcano updates at 3 in the morning. Or now, with the time change, 2 in the morning?

It can be googled in moments. Also, since we don't change time, things are actually a little better. NFL starts at 8am instead of 7am now. I swear, this causes more alcoholism than anything else in the state. Because I know a ton of people who wake up at six, get the wings going, ice down the keg, and start partying at 7am.

The clock in our bedroom is 8:42AM but my body clock it is 9:42AM. LOL

The Oregon Legislature passed a Bill in the recent Session that changes Oregon to permanent Standard Time but only if Washington and California also change.

Travelers that go to different time zones for vacations should not complain about this...just sayin...
LOL, some years ago we took family to WDW for the week of Texas schools’ Spring Break. The first day at the parks was the day Daylight Time started that year. So we had the double whammy of losing two hours of time from our body clocks, one for Daylight Time and the other for traveling from Central to Eastern time. 😴

What happens if if Washington changes to permanent daylight savings time?

That is almost impossible to do. To change to Permanent Daylight Savings Time takes approval of the Federal House and Senate. A number of States
(Including Oregon) have passed Legislation to go to Permanent DST going back at least 15 years. No Bill approving has ever made it out of either the Federal House or Senate.

To change to Permanent Standard Time does not take Federal approval.

Sorry, I misunderstood Washington to mean DC. I get it now.

Yep, I pointed out that exact same point over three years ago on post #35 on this thread. And people are still whining on here about having to change their clock twice a year. Some things never change...

I honestly think some people just live to complain.

SMH. Just the title of this thread gave me a Twilight Zone feeling but then many of the TUG Lounge thread titles do. This one I tried to peek into because ... oh no good reason

Clocks be damned. Time is meaningless to me.
Since I'm retired, I get up, eat & sleep when I want.
... Although TV schedules seem to be affected.

Oooops. I was wrong. The Bill to go to full time PST passed the Oregon Senate but did not get a Hearing in the Oregon House. People that talk about going to full time DST have short memories. This was done during the Gas Crisis of the 70's and caused significant problems for Kids going to school early in the morning.

Woke up this morning to go to my PT job at Steamboat Ski Area. It was pitch black outside and I couldn’t see. Is this an excused absence? Inquiring minds want to know!

Since I work nights (usually 5pm - 1am), I did not get an extra hour of sleep, I got an extra hour of being awake. I still slept my usual 7 hours, just one hour later.
