Spirit Airlines shut down at MCO today

Spirit Airlines did not have a "ground crew" (luggage loaders, plane movers, etc), and they could not "borrow" anyone from other airlines, so the nation's worst airline simply cancelled all their flights today. Some say it was a strike, but since all the unions said there wasn't one, it's simply not enough workers. Last time I checked, they worked long hours for $10/hour.

I thought Frontier airlines held the distinction as the worst airline ✈ in America.

Not surprised. I am sure its more then $10/hr but the pay is probably low compared to mailbox money.

Thanks, flew Frontier once, the flights where fine, sleeping in the Denver airport 5 hrs between flights wasn't.

We sat in Kona airport five hours with Delta. Especially infuriating because they knew at least 7 hours before the scheduled flight and chose not to notify us until we got to the airport. We had the resort until the next morning and could have chilled there.....

IMNSHO Low Bidder Airlines like Spirit, etc have one big plus and countless minuses.

They are definitely not on my phone list. I do have a friend who flys Allegiant quite frequently and she is pleased with them.

Cheers

Ugh. Just cements my decision, after flying Spirit one time, to never even consider flying with them ever again.

The airline should go bankrupt paying out compensation. But just as the sun will rise tomorrow people will spin the barrel and book Spirit.

This same story plays out with every other airline all the time.

Not to the same degree. Name another major airline that has cancelled 38% of all its flights in a single day, not due to a major external event (such as 9/11). Spirit is in a class all to itself, IMO.

I didn't look long, but Southwest cancelled almost 20% this day and almost every flight was delayed. Lots of other examples came up in my news search. Maybe the percentages are off but these types of cancellations happen to all airlines on a regular basis, especially now.

Now I see Spirit is up to cancelling 50%. Still no other airline comes close.

Spirit may be in death throes soon.

There’s quite a difference between storm/weather related cancellations and ones caused by lack of staff/aircraft/proper maintenance.

Cheers

As it should be. It’s only the foolish and a few point to point flyers that are keeping this airline alive. Sadly the DOT does nothing.

And there's more!
Video shows a Frontier passenger being duct-taped to his seat after punching and groping flight attendants, screaming obscenities, and walking around the plane shirtless

And Frontier put FAs on leave to "investigate." Union not too happy.
