My lilies were the most beautiful that they have been in YEARS. Now, it is too hot, and they are done. Kind of sad. :( They are the flowers that we tend to see the most, since the line some of the back areas of my house, where we park (as compared to the flowers that are in front, which we saw more of this spring than normal, as we walked around our neighborhood during the #quarantimes almost every day.)

You are right......

It is sooooo hot here in NC. We’re back down with DD. She and SIL bought their first house. Southern Pines. The builder put in foundation plantings and sod so they don’t have to do anything. They have ideas though and so do I (since I’m a landscape designer). But I will defer to them as though they were clients. DD is focused on non toxic plants since they have an 11mo and she’s concerned someone will drag in a poisonous leaf. That means much of the things the builder planted need to be relocated. It’s the first time I’ve had this as the primary requirement from a client. I’ve been doing some research and am pleasantly surprised to find that early Americans used Birch trees as a food source. I was suggesting they consider a river birch for shade. There’s a mature one down the street so it’s easy to give her a mental picture.

Are those cucumbers on the left?

The cucumbers are on the left next to the pepper in the tray with the strings beans (there are a variety of these/we have two types planted). The long ones on the right are what we call "cucuzza". A form of a squash. I call it the baseball bat sometimes :D.

There are a ton of different ways to make it. You can also cook some of the leaves - .We stuffed it with ground turkey (can use ground beef/chicken ground or meatloaf mix).

Just had a freshly picked “straight from the garden“ salad for dinner!

Lots of curly leafed lettuce leaves, chopped cucumber, several mini bell peppers ripened to yellow, a tomato plus 2 figs.

Our figs look to be several weeks away yet -- although the hideous green scarab beetles have already been checking the tree out.

Our figs usually are ready for picking end of month/September. All at once and then we have a ton. We are going to try to freeze a few this year.

These are actually pictures from our Front Yard. They show part of Patti's Sunset Garden and 3 Level Fountain. The Birds including Hummingbirds love the flowers and Fountain. When we moved in 10 years ago this area was nothing but hard clay and a single Narrow Leaf Ash Tree that was planted too deep and was not growing. We removed it. The large object on the bottom level of the Fountain is Coral brought back from Hawaii. Whenever Racoons or Possums visit the Fountain at night they tend to knock it into the Fountain.

Haven't posted garden changes lately.

A little hummingbird stopped by one of my patio pots. I was inspired to go find it more to enjoy and that led to this collection.

The potager has gone over to it's wild blackeyed Susan stage.

I found some new small hostas. Blue Mouse Ears didn't photo so easy. These are Sun Mouse and Mighty Mouse.

@Quilter Your kitty pictures are worthy of the FB groups The Ginger Cat Gang or Only Orange! Today I had a lady come buy something from me that I'd listed on FB Marketplace. First thing she said was "where's your big orange cat, I was hoping I'd see him!". I didn't realize she'd bought from me before, and if she'd said something earlier I'd have rousted JB to come do greeter duty. I'm having a garage sale Saturday, which means he'll sleep all day Sunday because he'll be tuckered out from all his greetings the day before. He likes nothing better than to say hello to folks.

Here's pictures from my visit to the church garden this morning. In the picture of me standing by the sunflower I should have brushed my hair first. Have mercy. I was hot and had been harvesting. ;) The one from a distance was taken from the sidewalk by the street. When you drive by you actually see it much better than what it looks in the picture.

What zone are you? We're zone 5 and waiting for our figs to ripen. It's first year we've noticed them so I'm not sure what month to expect them.

Today I put my second round of figs out for neighbors. I put 6-8 in a produce bag and set the bags under my mailbox after responding to those who contact me through Nextdoor. Unfortunately last time someone didn't get the concept that six bags meant six people had dibs, and not everyone got what they were promised. Our figs generally ripen in August. Last year was the first year they held off until September, and as a benefit we didn't get any of the nasty green scarab beetles flying around and massing on our small tree (tree was planted just before we bought the house in 2010). This year we had a beetle or two flying around early in August, but none again now that the figs are ripe. That suits me just fine!

Our backyard (about 10 feet wide and 12 feet long)- if that’s what you can even call it- is 3/4 inch rock with a standby generator on it. Lol!

Front is 4 bushes and one tree on the side. I plant flags instead of flowers. Ha! Ha!

East Coast/NY - Usually sometimes in September. We are starting to see some getting ripe - hubby might be putting netting. Birds getting to them.

So the season begins....

Trying to attach photo with same method as last year. It keeps saying it’s too large.

Brewster Green (two weeks).
I have always loved yellow Lady Bank roses. They are climbing, thornless, and pests don't bother them. But they only bloom once a year. I prefer the yellow to the white. They don't seem to get the mildew and black spot that other roses do in our hot and humid environment. They hang over many walls in Charleston as does wisteria and later jasmine. For eight years, hubby has tried climbing roses on the trellis we have. FINALLY he gave in and we bought a yellow Lady Banks last fall. It's blooming! It's skimpy and small right now but one day it will be glorious for the short time it lasts but it's worth it to me to take up the whole trellis with it! And the photo won't upload.
