Special Jeopardy tournament starts tonight (7 Jan 2020)

The three rhyming words is a brain twister for sure. And I bet if everybody did those it would help stave off dementia!

Or cause it! That made my head hurt.

Those are the answers that impress me the most. There would be no way to prepare. Tonight a few were answered so quickly it was like watching a high speed computer. I ask myself... "How did he do that?"

C'mon, give us a few weeks, we could have figured those out.

(Opinion only) After the second GOAT tourney, Ken and James duked it out for decisive wins. Brad continued to over bet and under answer Daily Doubles and show that he just isn't up to the pace. Sill, they all answered deep and obscure clues that showed that they all are trivia masters with incredible recall powers.

Anxiously awaiting match three.

James’ profile piece tonight made me feel slightly bad for rooting against him. But then I was back to rooting against him for the next game.

I don't know if there is any one of these guys who is more deserving of winning than either of the other two. They're all entertaining and amazing to watch compete. I like the good sportsmanship between them, too.

For some reason, I had the idea that James was a jerk. I just didn’t like his demeanor. Then, they showed what he and his wife do for underprivileged kids in Las Vegas. Ken is still my favorite and I hope he wins this thing, but I have a newfound respect for James.

Ken and Brad both benefited and learned from James. Go for the big score early in the game and actively 'hunt' the Daily Doubles. However this tournament finals out, there's no question that James Holzhauer changed the way the game is played.

Hunting daily doubles? Never figured that out but understand going for big ones early to build up the amount that can be wagered. These guys should want to save the daily doubles for the end.

From what I've read, a player would prefer finding the daily double(s) once they have increased their winnings and not at the beginning of a round. However, should you not locate the daily double, you risk the chance of another player finding it. And that you don't want. Six one way, a half of dozen another. Get it out of the way when you have the money but, don't leave it for another player to find.

I was so proud of myself last night. I got a question right that NONE of the champs did. :cheer: It had to do with the name of Beethoven's 3rd Symphony.

I've also managed to get some of the other questions right, but certainly not as many as the contestants. And many times I'll be thinking "I know that answer, but it just won't come to me.

i find it’s a lot easier once they answer the questions. Kind of like on Wheel of Fortune - the puzzles are a lot easier once I know the answer. :)

One clue to Jeopardy!'s success is that the writers carefully choose clues that LOTS of 'regular' viewers know the answer of. Imagine how dull it would be if all the contestants did would be to answer really obscure facts. The players wouldn't win much money either.

It's partly 'art' to craft the clues with a balance of difficulty. Too easy and it would become boring; too hard and people would change the channel and watch the news. (BTW, I was screaming, "EROICA" at the TV, too)

So, I watched the one hour shows on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. But wasn't the final show to be broadcast last night on Friday? Our local area did not carry the final broadcast last night for the championship. Or is that Championship final broadcast to be aired sometime next week?

The next broadcast in the GOAT series will be Tuesday, January 14 at 8:00pm (Eastern time).
There are also dates scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, but my understanding is it's being run World Series-style, ending when a contestant reaches the requisite three wins.

Facebook (true or not) had a post that they have added a seventh night to the schedule. If that is true, it means Brad came out of his slump and each one of them won two games and next Friday will be the seventh and final game.
