same with me. Now I'm obsessed and some of my baseboard is down right ugly because until now I didn't know how to cut a 45 degree angle and didn't have the tools to do it. Now with a miter saw and a nail gun it's super easy.
My favorite tool is now my new nail gun. Couldn't figure out how to use right away as didn't realize it came out of the box with the pressure release open so I'm sitting there trying to nail something and nothing is happening and stupid me couldn't figure it out for 1/2 hour.
So glad I stuck with it. There was a few times, like 1/2 dozen times, I really questioned my decision to do it. I really love crown molding but I was motivated because 2 BILs, one I admire and one I don't told my wife there is no way I'd be able to do it so i was determined.
I have a 18x13 sqft den that I'm redoing and last redo I put that cheap plastic crown molding that was adequate at best. Now i want to try the real stuff. I have the right chop saw to cut the angles but have never done it.
First how hard is it? I'm doing to do it anyway because my BIL who is a carpenter but lives in a run down house because he isn't motivated said I couldn't so just trying to gauge the challenge.
Any secrets to doing it right? Someone mentioned their was tool that helps measure the corner angles to help make the cuts. Is that true?
I'm assuming i start in one corner and do the corner first. How big should the corner pieces be? 2 feet? or bigger? Any secrets with dealing with the seams other than don't put them in an obvious line of sight.
How about securing them to the walls. do i need a nail gun of some kind? I'm going to look on youtube for some guidance as well.

A lot can get accomplished when you invite stubborn into the game!
Pics look GREAT! .
DH wanted to sell my chop saw in the last yard sale. It was a mini battle for storage space in the garage. Told him if he got rid of one set (of many) of his golf clubs I would consider giving up one of my precious tools.
He lost! We still have them all.
Nice work Joe. I just had a huge amount of damage to my home due to a water break last year. I reinstalled about 800' of crown throughout the house. The work was completed by professional carpenters. Yours looks as good as mine.
