Atlantis Resort at Ko Olina?

Wow that would be pretty cool :)

Thanks for sharing.

It would be cool. But, I imagine it would have to be in a small scale given the amount of land.

Would this be the last available ocean front parcel at Ko'Olina since it was recently announced that someone else acquired the land adjacent to Marriott Ko'Olina Beach Club. Or are they one and the same and perhaps the prior article had the wrong parcel or we came to the wrong conclusion?

Looking at Google maps, the land area looks comparable, if not bigger, than the existing Marriott footprint.

I think they mean in comparison to their property in the Bahamas.

Correct, in comparison to the paradise island property in the Bahamas. It would be much smaller.

Big Yellow Taxi
Joni Mitchell

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot SPOT
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
‘Til it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
And put them in a tree museum
Then they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go,
That you don't know what you've got
‘Til it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Hey farmer, farmer
Put away that DDT now
Give me spots on my apples
But LEAVE me the birds and the bees
Please!
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
‘Til its gone

The Counting Crows version is one of my favorite songs.

We knew something was going to be developed on that property at some point. It will be interesting to see what they do with it.

We are headed to MKO in June, so look forward to seeing the Four Seasons. Ko Olina is such a beautiful spot, we can hardly wait.

This isn't land by,around the marina?
Would be great if new JW marriott hotel would be built. Ihilani was always my favorite hotel of any I have visited, will see about the replacement this summer

We used to go to Ihilani before timeshares were built and bought timeshare during development.

A Travel Agent I was speaking too clapped her hands, and exclaimed, "I can't wait, it's going to be just like Waikiki.":eek::eek:

I had no idea how to respond to her glee.

Obviously, it will never be like Waikiki. It won't have even close to the same room concentration. However, it has always been a planned development with parcels that have long expected to be sold and developed. Adding more units and people will cause a busier atmosphere at the lagoons.

My point was, why would anyone want anything to turn into Waikiki?

IMO there are Waikiki people and there are Ko Olina (non Waikiki) people. Personally I would like Ko Olina to stay quiet. If I want to be in the middle of it I can stay in Waikiki.

Ay Ay. I would hate to have an Atlantis resort at Ko Olina. I love Ko Olina as it is, quiet and away from the madness, ahem, crowd of Waikiki.

Yes, this is the last available ocean front parcel -- I think this is the parcel next to Disney that is now being discussed for the Atlantis property -- this would suggest that there will be new development next to the Marriott (for the two luxury hotels owned by the Chinese investors) plus the hypothetical Atlantis property.

That would absolutely make the lagoon by Aulani jam packed -- wow. It was already relatively crowded last year, I can't imagine what it would be like when the Four Season opens and a potential Atlantis property.

Wow. Thanks for posting this.

Best,

Greg

My ex grew up right near there when that huge land area was the Campbell Estate. He used to go camping there with his Scout troup.

His Dad, my ex FIL, helped to bring back the disappearing Ilima flower with Mrs. Campbell.

I used to go there to see the roundy-round races at Hawaii Raceway Park in the 70s.

So, I remember that huge tract of land when it was a remote industrial park, but with lots of undeveloped beauty.

Pave Paradise, indeed. :bawl:

Paradise was paved over long ago. The undeveloped plots are not all that paradise like at the moment.

Ewwwwww. :annoyed: (forgive me, Waikiki lovers. My absence from there will save more room for you!)

According to the local news, this is one of the original projects that was announced back in 2005. If you ever heard of the plans for a large aquarium in Ko Olina this is the project. Report said one of the reasons it never came to fruition was that some of the investors were pushing to have legalized gambling.

Yes, that is correct. The announcement for the proposed Atlantis project would be for the land in between Disney and the Beach Villas at Ko'Olina and I would expect guests there would utilize both Lagoon 1 (with Four Seasons and Disney) and Lagoon 2 (with Beach Villas at Ko'Olina and whatever new resort is built on the other side of Beach Villas).

Then the parcel between Beach Villas and Marriott's Ko'Olina Beach Club, is actually three parcels on that large lot, is the area referred to as having been sold for $200m to the Chinese investors/developers for building two luxury resorts there. My expectation has always been that they would build one resort there to share Lagoon 2 with Beach Villas and the other on the left/south side of the parcel to share Lagoon 3 with the Marriott. That is how the land is laid out and it would seem to make the most sense.

There are some big numbers being thrown out there for these projects and we've definitely been noticing an uptick in real estate showing requests coming off of these announcements, which is interesting.

2016 is going to be a big year for Ko'Olina, no doubt about it!

I'll start a separate thread on this other topic, but I'm guessing everyone here has also heard about Chuck's Steak and Seafood to be replaced by Longhi's in a few months? That will be interesting. I've met the Longhi family on Maui and I expect they will be very successful with their Maui operation as well. Exciting times for Ko'Olina!

Thanks for sharing this clip and article. I agree with Greg that Ko Olina will likely have a feel similar to Kaanapali rather than Waikiki. While there will eventually be a lot more people in the area, I would think MKO will still have a relatively peaceful vibe to it.
