Any good/successful eBay stories out there??!!

Good for you, jgmackay! These guys are bad news. You've done yourself a favor in avoiding the headache of trying to close an impossible deal.

I've bought perhaps a hundred things on ebay. The only problem I had was with someone with a rating of less than 95.

When I looked at BCS Rental (they have at least one active listing), I see that they have only sold 18 things. The rest of their history is as buyers. Of the 18 sales, four (4) were either negative or were in the middle category. So, in my humble personal opinion, the percent of satisfied is 14 of 18, or 78 percent. That is horrible.

I've bought 2 timeshares off of ebay - - one from pricelessvacations and one from either namel43 or 34lamen (or something similar) - - both JK associated people. Both had about 100% ratings. The closings were prompt and flawless. I bought one from Redweek and Re/Max and we had a hiccup that almost messed up the deal. I think that neither the seller or the sellers agent (otherwise highly respected on TUG) had not read either the offer or the signed purchase agreement. But it went through eventually. The last purchase was from a fellow tugger - - perhaps the smoothest purchase.

So, all of the clues were there - - the actual satisfaction rating on sales was (IMHO) abysmal. Hopefully that is a "lessons learned".

I recieved a message from "Katie" at BCS Rentals this morning about my cancellation of any purchase with BCS Rentals. Katie responded to my statement that it appeared BCS Rentals was/is IA Vacations. Katie claims IA Vacations was located in the same building with them but has closed. She also claims to have no affiliation to IA Vacations. Katie also said in her email that it was alright by her that I inform the police department of them? In closing, she said she hoped to do business with me in the future and have a great year! Anyone who is reading this right now should do thier own due dillegence when dealing with this company. The Ebay feedback tells a story. But, just by reading this forum was enough for me although I dug deeper and just confirmed my fears. If I handed over my money, there was a good chance I would never see it again! John

Well guys and gals

I just bought my first timeshare on eBay. Grandview Las Vegas on Dec.21st and believe it or not I have a recorded deed as of today. I was truly amazed that it took less than 3 weeks. 2 weeks and 4 days to be exact.

Who was the seller?

I saw that BCS had an auction on eBay for Ko Olina and was thinking about until I read this thread. I did inquire about using a title company of my choosing for title search, escrow and paperwork. I also asked for the specific unit number.

Katie- same person as you responded that they have their own in house company that handled paperwork and escrow but no title insurance. Didn't answer the question about the unit. I replied and asked how an in house escrow would protect the buyer but she didn't answer the question but said that their in house service did escrow and didn't give a unit number. I asked a third time about the unit number but got no reply and the auction ended.

I hope whoever won the auction actually gets what they pay for, but I wonder if they even have possession of the deed at this point or have to get it from the poor guy they swindled it from.

I bought a unit from bcs, but did not see the reviews in them prior to bidding. I ended up cancelling after. I actually placed a bid on the Ko Olina unit as well but got beat at the last second which was a good thing in retrospect. I noticed it got relisted about a day later.

I just finally got my money my back after 3 months from VP title when Marriott supposedly exercised ROFR on a unit I bought from another seller associated with VP. Took them close to 2 1/2 months to refund the money after numerous calls and emails. Would not work with them again. The seller was j_worl4. Would not recommend them either as they were not very helpful when it came to helping me get my money back - gave lame excuses.

At least you got your $$ back.

Proceed with Caution...

Personally, I decided long ago to not conduct timeshare business of any sort at any time via eBay. I do not have the time, patience or interest to deal with inaccurate listings, inept and / or outright dishonest sellers, or bumbling "in house" closers. As always, YMMV.

That being said, it is not entirely fair to just unilaterally paint all eBay timeshare resellers with the same brush, coloring all of them as incompetent and / or conniving.
A few (...sadly, just a very few) seem to consistently make an effort to handle transaction matters honestly and professionally and take the necessary corrective action to "do the right thing" when they occasionally screw-up --- SumDay comes to mind as a specific example.

Unfortunately, the rotten apples (...like RedWeeks4less / IA Vacations / BCS Rentals) create virtually all of the angst and complaints of the many dissatisfied buyers.
Diligent and knowledgeable buyers with some previous timeshare experience can (...sometimes) safely navigate through all of the hidden landmines, but I pity the unwary "newbie" buying timeshares from the many dubious, shaky resellers on eBay, where the mantra should definitely be Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware)!

Let's see how long it takes Wyndham to add you to their membership system so you can actually use the timeshare. They tend to drag it out...

ebay user lakeparkartist

As a newbie, im looking at somes ts from lakeparkartist on ebay. On ebay since 2000- 183 with 100% positive feedback. As has a site with bogo timeshares. Has anyone on here bought timeshares from him? What questions can and should I ask an ebay seller to verify their legit?

I'm not sure that anyone can (or should) just believe the input of a hungry fox regarding whether s/he is "legit" in their transactions inside the henhouse.

I'd rely instead more upon the direct input of those who have actually completed timeshare transactions with the fox, sharing details of their experience.
If you even can't find any such people or any such timeshare transaction feedback for a timeshare reseller, that's plainly a bit of a red flag right there, at least IMO.

P.S. 100% positive feedback on 183 eBay transactions doesn't really mean much to you as a potential timeshare buyer if none of those transactions were timeshare transactions, but were maybe instead successful sales of Hummel figures or Cabbage Patch dolls, for example. The seller could be entirely trustworthy for those items, but clueless about any and all details concerning their timeshare(s), resale value thereof, floating vs. fixed week, Points (if applicable), closing agent ("in house"?), resort transfer fee, etc. In short, there are a number of very specific questions to be asked and then answered in clear, accurate detail before you commit to buying.

Proceed with caution!

I would probably only pick up something for nothing or close to it on ebay.. not willing to risk real money. .

I bought a gold week at Royal Dunes Resort in Hilton Head Island last year. The ebay seller was "acobbfan" and the processing all went through the company Your Vacation Services. I bought the unit on July 17, and received the completed paperwork and made a reservation for 2016 in December 2015. It was $5 for the auction, $499 for the transfer fees to their company, and $75 for the resort transfer fee.

The only thing I had an issue with was that it said Royal Dunes yearly maintenance fees were $835. We got a bill for $948 this year.

So far, it's going well for us. I rented out the week to my SIL and BIL for $1300 for 2016 use.

We also originally purchased a week on ebay in 2005 and used that (and some loopholes that were available at the time) with a developer purchase to make Wyndham VIP Gold.

lakeparkartist currently has 27 listings on ebay. I would assume most of his 100% positive feedback would be from timeshares.

I have no idea why or how you would make that seemingly unfounded assumption, but it is certainly your prerogative to do so.

I would, as previously suggested, actively seek to obtain input from (...and only from) people who have actually had direct, firsthand, personal experience in conducting a timeshare transaction with this "lakeparkartist" eBay advertiser, apparently located in Texas, but it is certainly your choice and option to just "roll the dice" and proceed with a transaction without knowing anything at all about the success (...or absence thereof) previously experienced by others. That's entirely your decision.

Of course, it is also a possibility that some existing timeshare reseller has simply adopted a brand new eBay seller name (see the various "BCS Rental" posts above, for a comparable, specific example). If so, the glaring and obvious questions are WHY change their name? --- and WHO were they before adopting a new seller name? :ponder:

Every time my thread helps someone not deal with what I dealt with on BCS Rentals I get ecstatic. Glad you caught the posts before it was too late!

BCS Rentals increased their feedback up 1% all with positive feedback as a buyer. 10 left today?! There is major padding going on here. 2 of the feedback statements are exactly the same but from 2 entirely different sellers. Really!?

I love how all the auctions are "Private". To Theo's point, no idea what they are selling.

I think the issue with eBay feedback is there is only a limited window (60 or 90 days I think) in which the buyer and seller can leave feedback. A recent timeshare purchase took a little over 90 days from the time auction ended to when I actually was able to set up an owners account with the timeshare company. I didn't want to leave any feedback until it was 100% in my name and it was exactly what the seller represented. By then the feedback window on eBay had closed so I couldn't leave positive feedback. I think this works for scam sellers to (eg bcsrentals, etc) in that they string the buyer along past the feedback period.

On what basis?

Only 6 feedbacks are for selling, but they do look like they could be timeshares.

I would request an estoppel letter and the name and contact information on his closing company. If he bulks, it might be best to look elsewhere.

Not arguing and your suggestions are very good ones, but I'm curious how / why any or all of the (only six) sales "look like they could be timeshares".:shrug::confused:
