Five Guys has several PA locations--isn't there one near you?
Way better than In-N-Out Burger, in my opinion.
It's almost blasphemy to say it (as a Southern Californian) but I prefer Five Guys over In-N-Out!!!!![]()

There are many, many individual burger shops and very small chains that run circles around any large chain. If a person lives in a city of any reasonable size and doesn't know of one, that person hasn't been looking. When you're dealing at that level it's a lot easier to consistently source higher quality ingredients and control the overall operation. There is a similar joint right near Fenway Park that my son and I found called Tasty Burger and it was awesome. As good as any of these famous chains.
Have you tried the crispy fries at In-N-Out? It's an off menu item - you have to ask for them. Same price. We have 2 In and Outs by our house. We like their burgers the best of the fast food burgers. I think their frys are like cardboard by DH and DS like them.
According to the article posted in post #4, In-N-Out doesn't plan to expand quickly. All locations are company owned (not franchises). They also don't build new locations more than a days drive from their distribution centers. So expecting expansion on the east coast is a pipe dream IMO.
Not a pipe dream, but probably some years away until they develop more distribution centers.
Also influenced by corporate finance limitations resulting from being privately held and not franchising. Since they don't franchise, much greater working capital is required for expansion. And since they are privately held they aren't generating capital from stock sales.
What that means in practice is that probably will not build another distribution center until their existing distribution centers are maxed out and it doesn't make economic sense to to enlarge or expand existing distribution centers (either because they have reached a point where additional expansions to existing centers require significant capital or the market served by the distribution center is saturated).
That is the point at which they would consider adding another distribution center.
In n Out from the secret custom menu, mustard fried MFR.

and a shout out for number 3 Fuddruckers if you want to try exotic burgers like ostrich and wild boar...
So they will continue to expand in areas surrounding their existing distribution centers before they build another one. Makes sense. The amount of capital that they would need for expansion is huge. So I think it is still a pipe dream to expect them on the east coast, even within the current decade or half century. How far have they gotten in their 65 years? Five states none farther east than Texas. McDonald's is only a few years older and look at their reach. In-N-Out is yet to get to the Mississippi.
