Happy New Year everyone!

Yesterday (December 31st 2019) I noticed that my 2021 weeks showed up in Interval in the "my units" section. I placed a couple of "request first" ongoing searches.
To my surprise, this morning I received an email from Vistana that "YOUR INTERVAL INTERNATIONAL ASSIGNMENT CANNOT BE PROCESSED

At this time we are unable to complete your exchange request with Interval International®. There are several reasons you may be receiving this message:

  • The annual fees associated with your Vacation Ownership Interest (VOI) (including current or future Use Years) had not been paid at the time you initiated an exchange request with Interval.
  • You have a VOI from a previous Use Year available for exchange with Interval.
  • You are outside your date range to request an external exchange assignment.
  • You have already obligated your Use Right for this VOI.
  • Interval was unable to locate a valid membership account for your VOI, or your membership may have lapsed. Please contact Interval International at 877-782-7088 to resolve your account number. Once resolved, you must contact Owner Services again to assign your VOI.
Interval will maintain your pending exchange request for seven days in order to provide you with an opportunity to contact Owner Services at 800-847-8262 or 407-903-4640 to discuss your available vacation options. If we do not hear from you, your pending request will be canceled. Learn more about your recently enhanced external exchange process. "

Of course I own those units and they are still free to use. I did not pay the 2021 maintenance fees associated with these contracts (2020 is paid) but my search was "request first" and to my knowledge I do not have to pay them until the actual deposit takes place and my request matches. Why are they even checking a "request first" OGS?

I received a similar message when I was trying to use my 2019 week. Had to call in to resolve.

Did Vistana say what the problem was? I know there should be not problem with mine and I wonder why would Vistana care before I actually deposit the week. The actual deposit can be in few months from now or never if I do not match.

It was on Vistana ends. Vistana didn’t show I actually had a 2019 but I did. It took 2 calls but it was resolved. I also worked w/ the TuG II contact. Great guy.

Deposits have to be verified in an OGS. It has always worked this way. In fact, they freeze your week while search is pending, so you can't do anything with it.

In what sense they freeze your week? So you cannot even book your home resort after you placed an OGS? What if you already have a home resort reservation, do they cancel it (not my case since the deposit would be a 2021 week)? My understanding was that you retained full control until you match and actually deposit.

Who is the TUG II contact guy?

you have to pre-pay your MF in order to do an ongoing search. Yes it is a request first but it is auto confirmed if there is a match and you would need to have both your 2020 and 2021 MF's paid in order to search using your 2021 unit.

Oh, yeah. That’s not for everyday regular reservations, which is what I thought was implied earlier in the thread.

Correct, mainly for issues that require escalation.

I think that -also - - on any deposit/request or any request first that you need to pay the exchange fee FIRST. That way if you get a match everything is done.

I had a request first last year and I did not have to prepay the MF until I matched. Has anything changed? In any case, I have been waiting for 15 minutes to speak with a Vistana rep. This is unacceptable, before the takeover I never waited for more than 1 minute.

You should have had to prepay last time. They may not have checked last time. Request first really requires everything the same as deposit ffirst with the exception that if you don't match you can still cancel and then make an internal home or svn reservation .

I was referring to the need to pay the Interval International exchange fee at the time when you set up the ongoing ii request. I was NOT addressing the subject of Maintenance Fee. I don't know about your MF prepayment requirement with Vistana, so I wasn't addressing it.

Customer Service has been merged and it seems like they have less employees.

I agree. I've deposited early several times. Each time I pre-paid my MFs and had no issues with the requests.

You always have to prepay MF for Vistana if you want to use II for trading. Nothing new here.

Even when you request first?

In any case, I have prepaid online the MF for one of the weeks I used for the 2 searches because I used it for a Marriott Kaua'i Beach club week 51, 2020 exchange, not a bad exchange I guess. I have also used the online feature on Vistana.com to deposit it in Interval. I hope I will not have a problem to get it confirmed. The waiting time to speak with a Vistana rep is over an hour but I am using the call back feature so hopefully someone will call me today.

both @VacationForever and @tschwa2 are right, this was indeed the issue, MF have to be prepaid even for "request first" OGS. I wish Vistana had a more customized email communication to tell me what the exact problem was. This would have saved me and THEM a lot of time. When creating the OGS online, Interval could also have a clear message that you have to prepay your MF if you are depositing a next year week.

Interval doesn't know why a resort gets rejected when they are not cleared on a deposit. Nor do they want to get involved. They also don't keep track of which developers and timeshares make you pre-pay and which don't. I don't know if the info is on the vistas site or if it is easy to be found but it has been that way (prepay to use interval) since 2012 and I saw that with an easy search here on tug.

Also consider that not all resorts and systems require prepayment. Marriott does not.

the email I had received and posted at the top of the post was from Vistana not Interval so they should know and communicate the issue. You do have a good point about Interval.
