I live in a CCRC. There are many elderly living here with lots of money in the Bank who have been afraid to spend any of it during their last 10 - 20 years being afraid they would outlive their money. Deferred annuities purchased when they were younger kicking in at ages say 70, 75, 80 or 85 would have allowed them to enjoy much of their money in the earlier years of their retirement. The spot they are in now is that they will leave the money they didn't spend on themselves to heirs who may or may not just piss it away...
