Xcaret/Mexico Vacation Club?

My wife and I just spent a few days in Xcaret Mexico, and were very interested in the membership presentation that we attended. I have a strict policy of not buying super expensive things on impulse, so we didn't buy it there, but I'm still interested and wanted to see if anyone with a membership could comment on the value of it. I've seen some reviews online that their guarantee to beat any other price by 25% does not apply to packages, so that immediately has me concerned, as our stay was much less than the price they give on the website. In fact, I just looked up prices on CC and the price actually went down when I added the flight vs booking the hotel only.

The presentation made it seem like we'd be saving a significant amount on every stay, along with getting some membership perks, but I've heard so many horror stories of people buying these things and either getting blatantly ripped off, or just not getting any good value from it. If the only real value is the referral program, I'll pass. Any real world experiences would be welcome!
 
We bought and have been happy with it. At the level we bought and how we vacation we calculated we would need to utilize it 30 days over 10 years (which is like 3-4 trips), plus there are other benefits like upgraded rooms, better service. I see a lot of people complain about the program who spent waaaay too much for how they would utilize it so it's useful to plan a bit ahead before you go to the presentation.

I think a lot of people use the flight+hotel package deals and these sometimes come out better (and they won't price match them, at least not yet)
 
July 2, 2024 - They offered platinum premium package $59k, 60 year membership. Bonus, no blackouts, our usage cost $4200 (but could chg per season!), 2 free weeks out of the Five Diamonds 'black book' membership he gave us( like RCI but upscale), AND $500/ person/year "Flyback" airline cash reimbursement if you come back to Xcaret. So $4200-$2000 (offered to cover family 4 people) so cost= $2200/wk. Seems too good to be true. Yes, they said we could rent our weeks ($4200) and get 1 free day each time we rented it out. If they buy at Xcaret you get 4 free days.

The rental part will never work out as they say it will. Don't buy a timeshare with the plan to rent anything to cover your costs. Buy to use. If the numbers don't add up when doing that, then it simply isn't a good option.

Any suggestions on the best way to go to this resort and save money?

My dad is a Pearl member He negotiated it down to 6k and paid it off in 3 years. he does get access to a travel discount website but I think its like 100 per year going forward
