I live in the midwest and would like to purchase (resale) a timeshare in the midwest. I would like to hear some opinions on which point system they prefer. Wyndham or Bluegreen.

Bluegreen

I don't own both so I can't compare and contrast, but I can tell you my likes and dislikes about Bluegreen.

Likes:
1) no extra fees. No booking fee, no guest fee, minimal cancellation fees.
2) Great customer service & continuous improvement of website.
3) Continually adding new resorts & benefits
4) Big Cedar Wilderness Club
5) relatively low MF
6) Good Premier benefits if you qualify

Dislikes:
1) uneven quality level of resorts.
2) few Midwest resort options.

Anita

Thanks

What you described is exactly what I preceived. Big Cedar is fantastic, but what about everything else. I think the Fountains in Orlando is also top notch, but I'd like some good choices within a 5-7 hour drive. I've been to the Wyndham at the Smokies and it was Fantastic for a Family trip. I've heard the Glaciers in the Dells is just as good. My fear is that Wyndham is so big I'll never get where I want to go even if it's not week 52.

Wyndham one of best values in all of timeshare (at RESALE)

It has been easy to get exactly what we want with Wyndham over the years with a minimum of planning. The fact that Wyndham grew to so many locations helped as choices increased and demand spread out over more resorts. It has been a great system for us. We still have the same points we purchased in 1995 but get to see new resorts as well as our favorites virtually on demand.

I love Bluegreen's Charleston, SC resort and their Daytona Beach resort is very nice. So is their resort on Marathon Key. Their Las Vegas resort is brand new. Although I have never traded a Bluegreen week I understand that they trade quite well.

I prefer the Wyndham resorts in Myrtle Beach, and of course Wyndham has so many options in other areas you may be interested in. I think it is way too complicated to trade Wyndham, at least for me.

It really depends on the locations you want to travel.
This is exactly my advice as well. Look carefully at the portfolios of the two resort systems, and choose based on which one has resorts that better fit your preferences. Rent a couple to get a sense. I've only stayed in one Bluegreen resort (Mountain Run), and it was quite nice. We thought some of the Wyndhams we've visited might have been just a touch nicer, but not all of them, and not by so much that it would make a material difference.

Please note that buying bluegreen can be a little tricky, If I was interested in Bluegreen I'd start with this website It is the website of a long time Tugger with a huge amount of info about buying Bluegreen.

Wyndham resale

I found that to be very true, with all the Trust funds and increases in transfer fees and inabilility to combine unless all your t's are crossed and i's dotted, I would never buy Bluegreen without a reputable agent to help. That said Wyndham seems to be much easier, just provide your owner number when you buy additional points. I know the reputable Bluegree agent and with Wyndham all I can do is check Tug for feed back and go to Ebay and hope for the best.

Have to disagree with "how hard it is" to buy Bluegreen. Been pretty easy and straightforward for me, and I own what I expected to own.

I suppose a person could make it more difficult on themselves in many ways, and certainly buying from an unhappy or ignorant owner on eBay could gunk up the works.

There are a few convenient driving trips, depending on where in the Midwest you are. From Indy, I can get to Wisc Dells, Boyne, Gatlinburg, Branson, in an easy daytrip. Myrtle Beach is a bit of a lonnnng driving day but do-able.

Wyndham is much harder to use than Bluegreen. When evaluating both, just make sure you know all of the hidden fees. There are tons of them in Wyndham. If you are careful, you can avoid many/most of them. If you don't plan right, you can get hammered.
