Any advice for room suggestions at Wyndham resort at Fairfield Mountains? Going in April

Also, we are planning to visit the Biltmore- what else is there to do in the area that is great?

I've never been to the Biltmore, but my sister lived up there while she was getting her BA from University of North Carolina Asheville. I believe there are some historical sites, and hiking (the city is practically surrounded by forests and mountains). Oh yeah, the Blue Ridge Parkway (car only - no RVs)

Don't think it matters where you stay as long as it is at the Wyndham facility. They are stand-alone units backing up to the golf course. The first time there we were assigned to a VRI condo. Nothing against VRI, I own some weeks at VRI resorts. But, we own Wyndham points, made the reservation through Wyndham, and wanted to stay in a Wyndham condo.

It's kind of a funny area. You check in here and stay way over there. There are a couple of restaurants nearby, associated with the golf course. Most other places require a drive of five miles or more on mountain roads. Watch the drinks at dinner.

Allow two days for the Biltmore to see the residence and the gardens. You can get discount tickets for two consecutive days from the Wyndham office. There is a nice restaurant on-site in the old carriage house. Good for lunch.

Concur with Chimney Rock. Quaint little town along the river and Chimney Rock itself is worth the time. The boat tour of Lake Lure is interesting.

Roads in the area are extremely crooked. We went once in a BMW X5 and I felt like I was driving a semi. Next time we took a BMW 135 convertible. Much more fun but it would be really easy to end up in the woods.

One of the things I wanted to do but we never got to is run a road called Tail of the Dragon. Google it. It is famous, notorious, etc. Lots of little crosses alongside the road.

We stayed at one of the other TS resorts in the area (Fox Run). There is a lot to see and do in the area. I've written reviews for IgoUgo.com, links below.

The same thing happened to us the last time we were there. After talking to the Wyndham rep, we were advised to always look for a "WM" (Wyndham Managed) in the listing if there are several companies managing properties at a location. This can be common with the campus style resorts.
The two Wyndham sections are Mountain Loft And Maple Ridge. Mountain Loft is the closest to the rec area.
Definitely do the boat tour.

Depending on how many are in your party, it may be cheaper to just rent a boat and enjoy your day out on the water. For just three of us, it wasn't that much more to rent the boat and we had more time out on the lake . . . it was really very nice!

Connemara (Carl Sandburg's home) is one of my favorite places in the area.
It's not fancy like Biltmore(!), but the grounds are beautiful and it has been left almost exactly as it was when the Sandburgs lived there. You
almost expect them to walk back in the door at any moment.

We really enjoyed our stay at Fairfield Mountains last year. We're going again for a few days in April this year. Enjoy!
