Wyndham Ocean Walk Daytona Questions

WE just received confirmation into the Wyndham (Fairfield) Ocean Walk, Daytona Beach, Fl. next May 2-9. We have not been to Daytona in 30 years. We requested this timeshare based on TUG ratings and reviews.

We are week exchangers, not points, and I know Fairfield is POINTS...so can any week exchangers advise if we are treated the same....like location of room, etc.

Do all the rooms have views of the Ocean? They don't appear to all be Ocean Front and as a week exchanger I doubt we will get ocean front!

The reviews were very thorough, but would like to know about Ocedan Walk views.

Thanks.

Chances of an ocean front room is slim and for an ocean view probably 50/50. We have had a number of trades in there in the past and had rooms with a "partial ocean view" a couple of times. Last May we were there and had a view of the parking garage. However, a few years ago we traded and gave it to my sister. It was a corner ocean front room. Emery Riddle was having their homecoming and there was a Thunderbirds air show right in front of the Oceanwalk and a Beach Boys concert in the band shell. Maybe you'll get lucky.

We stayed at this resort last spring and had exchanged a week (not points) into the resort. We've stayed here a couple of times actually and I think that we exchanged each time. We had nice units in the South tower on the side of the building, not ocean front. They were 2 bedroom/2 bath and I would consider them ocean view. The units begin on floor 14 in the south tower and are above the adjacent shopping/dining area which is called Ocean Walk. They overlook the historic band shell too. We have also stayed in the North tower and it was very nice. It seemed that the units were larger in the North tower but I could be wrong. I think you can call ahead and request a preference to north or south tower. I did not feel that we were treated any differently as an exchanger. The staff at the resort were very helpful and friendly (except the security staff around the pool). Security staff around the pool were a bit vicious about wearing wrist bands and were almost bully's. Anyway, besides that, this is a fun, busy spot to stay. I read on this forum somewhere that they may now be charging for parking. I'd call and inquire about it since parking is an issue.

We will also be there at the same time.We have never stayed in the Daytona area and are looking forward to it. We have a 2 bedroom unit 6/6.

wyndham, daytona

We stayed in Daytona last March in a 2 bedroom and had friends staying in a 1 bedroom- both weeks exchanges. We both had partial view from the 13th floor in the south tower. We had not made any prior requests. We took the promotional tour and were told that the north units were larger and for Wyndham/ Fairfield owners. You can believe that or not. Out of curiosity one day I asked one of the maids if the North tower was larger and nicer. Whe said it "might" be a little bigger, but otherwise the same.

Yahoo Fairfield/Wyndham Group

You might want to join the Yahoo Fairfield/Wyndham group as there is a ton of good info there. They also have a Ocean Walk sub-group that details the room numbering system, etc..

BTW, I'm a Fairfield owner and my one visit to Ocean Walk I got stuck in a garage view room and was unable to get it changed ("we're full, the computer assigns the rooms," etc..). It left a bad taste in my mouth as it was my first Fairfield visit. But, that was my only bad experience with room assignments. I just returned from Bonnett Creek where they were very accomodative in regard to our room view, so you just never know.

I am a little confused. I am a new points owner and I tried to get my first points purchase at this location in the same week, May 2-9. I requested this back in July and was told that it was all booked. Did I do something wrong since this writer states that they just got confirmation that they are booked into Ocean Walk the same week that I requested back in July. I hope I made sense. I am still pretty confused about this whole timeshare thing. I had really wanted to go to Daytona that first week in May but had to end up with a place further south. Thanks for your help.

Bonita,

You really need to check back often, if the unit you want is not available when you first try. People cancel all the time. With FF points perserverance pays off - just check first thing in the morning everyday and it's still possible that you will get into Daytona for that week

We have stayed here a few times. Each time we have exchanged in (weeks), we have received the unit listed on our confirmation. We also arrived early one year and they would not allow early check in which is what I expected. We were moving from another timeshare and all had bathing suits under our clothes, a packed cooler and spent the day at the beach before check in.

We have traded into a 2bd 6/6, 2 bd 6/6 and a 2 bd 6/8. The 8 was a lo unit where the smaller 1 bd lo portion looked into the hallway towards the main street. All the units we stayed in were in the south tower and all had balconies that were oceanfront.

What is the unit listed on your confirmation?

I'm not sure it does much good to request towers/specific views at this resort. A few of the floors are full ownership and many of the units are rented at rack rate.
