Hi,
Can anyone tell me about this resort?
Our family is trying to plan an August vacation and was at first thinking about Destin FLA. Then someone mentioned Myrtle Beach. There aren't any 3 bedrooms available for my dates in Myrtle Beach, so I would have to get a 2 bedroom and also a 1 bedroom. Is there much to do around this resort, is the beach nice and are the units nice?
Thank you in advance,
Sue

I've never been to Ocean Boulevard, but to Myrtle Beach quite a bit. The beach will be way different than Destin, much less soft and more waves. There's a lot of very touristy stuff to do in Myrtle Beach - shows, aquarium, amusement park, shopping, etc.

We have stayed at OB several times. The beach is nice and the rooms are nice -typical Wyndham rooms. We prefer to stay in Tower 1,2,or 3, those buildings are ocean front. Tower 4 and the cottages are across the street. The resort has activities going on all the time. Several bars and restaurants are within an easy walking distance. Broadway on the Beach is a short car ride away. Our personal favorite Myrtle resort is Seawatch -did you check for availability there?
There's great golf courses, outlet shopping, Legends in Concert or The Palace Theatre can be a fun night out. We also like the dueling piano bar at Broadway. There's jet ski rental and parasailing on the beach. If you have kids, the would probably enjoy the amusement pier, or the Pirate dinner cruise.

Hi,
Actually our home resort is Seawatch. There are only 1 bedrooms available at this time. If I had known they wanted to go to Myrtle Beach, I would have put my request in during the ARP reservation period. But now I am too late. So Ocean BLVD is available, and I am looking to find any information about this resort I can to determine if it will be a good fit for our family. So please, offer up any comments or advice.
Thank you, Sue

Check out the reviews on Tug sounds like a nice place. Have fun

RCI Exchangers will most likely be put across the street from the ocean with virtually very little ocean view. However, the pool at this location is big. You will have tons to do in MB at this time of year. There are many many attractions for the family to enjoy as well as great shopping. The ocean is warm and the place will be busy. Check out the great restaurants in the area. The Midtown Bistro on 17 Hwy near 17th street has daily specials that are delicious and very reasonable. Reservations will be necessary because many restaurants will be very very busy.

Housekeeping left a lot to be desired on our trip. A soaking wet men's undershirt was found in one of the bedside table drawers in the master bedroom. We reported this to the management but they really didn't seem to be too disturbed.

We stayed at OB over Thanksgiving.......and I lived in the area years ago. Here are my observations:

1) OB is good if you like less "touristy" areas. The farther south you go (i.e. Myrtle Beach) the more shopping, neon signs, go cart tracks, etc. OB is pretty much in Cherry Grove, which is more of a family area. When we were there, we drove up to the inlet (about 5 minutes away) and walked out to the point. It felt very "remote".....not like Myrtle to us.

2) OB has a lot of family activities. We enjoyed the heated lazy rivers....the pools, etc. There is an arcade and they had karaoke one night while we were there. The kids loved it.

3) OB is still Myrtle Beach....we were there during Thanksgiving week and it was still really crowded.

4) We stayed on an upper floor, Ocean Front, 3 bedroom deluxe in tower 1. It felt small compared to other 3 bedroom deluxe we have stayed in. If I recall, I looked it up and it was just over 1,100 sq ft. I am looking at a presidential or 4 bedroom (hard to get) when we go back.

5) Parking: Get a good space and don't move! The parking deck for Towers 1, 2 and 3 is connected to those towers but does not have enough parking. There is a tower across the street for tower 4 and overflow. You will end up there a lot. It is not a bad walk, but can be a pain if it is raining, you are in a hurry, have groceries, etc.

Hope that helps.

BTW, we stayed there with 4 adults (the grandparents came along) and 4 kids....ages 9 to 16. Everyone loved it and wants to go back.

own at Ocean Blvd.

We own at OB and have been there too many times to count! I think you will like it! Most all units were renovated in the last year or two. A good thing about having a 2 br and a 1 br unit is you'll have 3 bathrooms! haha

One complaint I've heard is that because the pools are between the towers, they are frequently in the shade and can be breezy. Of course, if you're there in hot summer months, that might be nice to get some relief from the heat. (We are more "beach people" so don't use the pools very much.)

The resort has lots of planned activities that your kids/family may enjoy and you can easily walk to Main Street for arcade, some carnival type rides, a few restaurants, beach music clubs, shops, and ice cream. Beach is wide and beautiful and usually very swim-able.

If you have to park in the overflow lot, they have a shuttle that can transport you back to the ocean front towers if you need that.

Call the front desk and let them know you have 2 units for one family and they will usually try to locate you in units close to each other. I believe ALL 1 bedroom units are in Tower 2.

Suggestion: If you like seafood, take the 20-minute drive north to Calabash, NC (a small town that made "calabash style" seafood famous). You will not be disappointed!

Have only stayed at Ocean Boulevard

We have only stayed at Ocean Boulevard, thus can't compare to others.

Yes, lots to do. The beach and pools are nice, and it was fun just hanging around the resort. It's a long walk north to a pier with a restaurant/bar. We are a family of dancers and North Myrtle Beach is the shag capital of the world. There is dancing nightly at Fat Harold's on Main Street. We'd start our evenings there, pretty much every night there is a dance lesson. For us ages were 12 to 80 something. There are several bars with rooftop bands.

Parking in the overflow is not bad. At night that's pretty much all you can find. I'd go early in the morning and move my Dad's car back over under Tower 2 (beach side) as there is just never enough handicap spots if you come back late at night. I think they should make the beach side all handicapped (or alot more of it) - those who truly need handicapped parking need to have it available and those of us who don't can surely walk the 2 blocks (and there is a shuttle).

I think all deluxe rooms are beach side (versus if not deluxe you'll be in tower 4). Beach side (towers 1, 2, or 3) all have an ocean view (or ocean front). the way the building are layed out you can atleast get a glimpse of the water if you are beach side. That's how I think it works there, if someone knows otherwise, please correct me.

We loved it and I'm sure we'll go back again.

Wyndham OB

How far is Main street from the resort?
Thanks, Sue

Main Street could be considered "1st" Avenue. Wyndham OB is between 4th & 5th Avenue so it's a little more than a block, but it is easily walk-able. You can walk on the beach or street side on sidewalk.

Towers 1, 2, & 3 are ocean front and all rooms are either ocean view or direct ocean front. Tower 4 is across the street... an ocean view is sporadic and small (looking across the street and between buildings), but the pool area for Tower 4 is nice and open and includes a small playground that our young grandchildren enjoy.

You mentioned you are reserving a 1 bedroom... I'm pretty sure the only 1 bedroom units are in Tower 2. The deluxe designation applies to all units, not just those on the ocean front.

Main Street is just a short walk up Ocean Blvd. It’s the next street past 1st Ave so that makes it 4 short blocks from the resort.
