We returned yesterday (8/7) from a five night stay at Wyndham Nashville. The primary purpose was to hook up with our daughter and two granddaughters (4 & 11), who live in western Kentucky, an hour or so from Nashville. Also joining for a day were our son-in-law and his sister.

About a week before the reservations started, I messaged the resort and asked that our units (a 2BR LO and a 2BR Deluxe) be in the same building, if possible. We were assigned units 1713 & 1714 (the lockoff) and 1715 (the 2BR Deluxe). Couldn't have been better!

The two girls are pool rats and take after their mother, who was a NCAA D1 swimmer. The girls probably spent 6-8 hours a day at the pool, alternating between the main pool, indoor pool, and hot tub. Despite this because something else was planned, the older one told her Mom, "You're really spoiling our vacation by not letting us go to the pool." (!)

A shout out to Savannah and Mac, the activities directors. for their outstanding work running bingo, karaoke, and the other activities. Front desk staff and management were also special.

DW and I made it to The Hermitage, something we've been meaning to do for some time.

For us, it's a ten hour drive, +/- a bit. A stop at Buc-ee's in Mt. Crawford, VA off I-81 both ways, Buc-ee's Sevierville on the way to Nashville, Buc-ee's Crossville on the way back, both off I-40, and the VA Welcome Center on I-81 coming home. No unusual traffic problems although I-81 is a struggle with all the trucks and all the hills.

Weather was pleasant, not the oppressive heat and humidity that we've seen for weeks.

Nashville would be a lot nicer if they would just take the fiberglass/acrylic shower enclosures out and put in nice tile walls, then it would be very nice.

I guess they fixed the hot tubs then, it seemed unusable when I was there in April. I doubt I'd ever want to go back, really was bottom of the barrel for me, and I actually booked that one with Wyndham points. Glad you got better units and working amenities.

Same here but it was 5-6 years ago. I had what was probably the worst unit I’ve ever stayed in at a Wyndham resort. It was a 1 bedroom studio with one window. The unit was small, very dark and just had a very old vibe. The resort is old and, in my experience, the big majority of others who stay there are also older, like me. The Grand Ole Opry is mostly for older county music fans and there isn’t really anything else nearby that would interest many younger owners. Even when I was there for the basketball tournament, most of the guests were older people like me. I’m 70 now, mid-60s back then. I love going to Nashville for the SEC basketball tournament when I can get tickets, but I’ve stayed in Margaritaville the last couple of times I’ve been since that experience.

You know it's that kind of thing that accounts for some of the difference between Wyndham and HGVC resorts. Shower enclosures, bathroom countertops, etc.

I guess I have had pretty good luck with the units i've gotten over the years at Nashville. I never had a bad unit.

My last stay at Kingsgate was the worst unit I ever stayed in. It was an unrenovated 1BR Suite. Was literally falling apart.

Is HGVC nicer or less nice on average than Wyndham resorts?

I'm not an HGVC owner but on average I've heard Marriot and Hilton timeshare resorts are a step above Wyndham. IIRC @rickandcindy23 have stayed in most of the competing timeshare systems over time and can provide firsthand experiences to better answer your question here.
