:hi: Having Feb. 2009 family birthday get-together at Wyndham and have following questions:

1. Are their concierges able to get good show tickets? ;)

2. Laptops work well in units? Is there a charge for the week? Are there available computers in Lobby?

3. Which building(s) should I ask for? Do they respond to your request
if we are exchangers? :hysterical:

4. Grandsons, ages 11 and 9 -- other than pool are there things for them?

5. Parking fees?

6. Is the sofa-bed sleepable or should we bring foam mattress? Can we request one bedroom have twin beds not a queen? Not referring to the Master.

7. Full size refrigerator? There are 7 in one 2 BR and 2 in another 1 BR to feed

Any other advice? It is our son's 50th birthday :bawl: How can he be so old and us so young? Zillions of thanks for any insight!

Hi Cathy,

We stayed there last May. Here's what I remember:

:hi: Having Feb. 2009 family birthday get-together at Wyndham and have following questions:

1. Are their concierges able to get good show tickets? ;)

There is a concierge desk in the main lobby available to help arrange stuff for you.

2. Laptops work well in units? Is there a charge for the week? Are there available computers in Lobby?

I don't recall how well it worked otherwise, but as I recall, we used our cell phone data connection to our laptop for Internet access because it gave a better connection.

3. Which building(s) should I ask for? Do they respond to your request if we are exchangers? :hysterical:

Tower 1 and 2 face each other and look down on the two swimming pools. Tower 3 is to the side, and has (arguably) better views of the Strip in the distance. When I called ahead and requested the "best view of the Strip" they did accommodate me, and put us in a nice unit on the seventh floor of Tower 3. There were buildings in the distance, but it wasn't what I would consider a glamorous view - but there WAS a view of the Strip.

The nextdoor neighbors were having a monstrous party, and were so loud, after I complained a few times, I requested a move to another unit. We ended up in a fifth floor unit in Tower 2, looking down at the pool. It was church-quiet the rest of the week.

None of the rooms have balconies or even windows that open, so the view is a very relative thing. The rooms are decorated about the same.

4. Grandsons, ages 11 and 9 -- other than pool are there things for them?

I'm remembering a game room on site, but not much else for kids besides the pool. To be fair, we didn't have any kids with us, so could easily have missed something.

5. Parking fees?

Parking is free.

6. Is the sofa-bed sleepable or should we bring foam mattress? Can we request one bedroom have twin beds not a queen? Not referring to the Master.

I'd call the resort on that one. The sofa in our living room was pretty lumpy, and we never folded out the bed. We had a one-bedroom unit.

7. Full size refrigerator? There are 7 in one 2 BR and 2 in another 1 BR to feed

Ours was full-sized and brand new. So was the stove, with oven.

Any other advice? It is our son's 50th birthday :bawl: How can he be so old and us so young? Zillions of thanks for any insight!

It's a nice place we used as a base camp for exploring away from the site. Pool chairs were commandeered hours ahed of time by sneaky people who claimed them, preventing others from having a decent place to sit. I found the resort nice, and conveniently located, but I'd have felt very overwhelmed b y th4e sheer number of other guests if I'd had to stay there all day long.

Yes, I did enjoy it, and I'd stay there again. It'd be great to have a crowd of your own staying there. seems like a good "party place."

Have fun!

Aloha Dave,
Looks like you are online from KBV. In case you haven't found it, there is a storage closet of owner to owner hand me down equipment in back of the office facing the tennis courts.
Looking forward to a pool construction update.

Yes, but given what's going on in Vegas, I doubt a lot of shows are sold out and you might be able to get a better deal at Tix For 2nite down on the Strip.

2. Laptops work well in units? Is there a charge for the week? Are there available computers in Lobby?

My laptop worked rather well on the wireless connection. I didn't get charged for the internet.

5. Parking fees?

No you just have to go over to the special guest services desk to get a parking pass. Then tell them you don't need to take the 15 minute survey for a $25 gft card.

7. Full size refrigerator? There are 7 in one 2 BR and 2 in another 1 BR to feed

Yes, full size fridge, all appliances.

Any other advice? It is our son's 50th birthday :bawl: How can he be so old and us so young? Zillions of thanks for any insight!

Happy 50th to your son. Have a great time.

So so connections

When we were last there in April they have paid wireless - it was down most of the time - and said they planned to change to Wayport (not much better in my past experience). They did have a nice computer lounge with hard wire connections (and PC's) that worked well.

There was also a "sales room" wireless access point in the lobby that worked well and no charge.

In a 1 BR you only have 1 master bedroom. The bedding is always a king in the Master bedroom. In a 2 BR unit the bedding is always 1 King inMaster and 2 Doubles in the second bedroom. According to the stat sheets I am looking at there are NO Queens in the 2nd bedroom. So that sounds like it is what you are wanting.

No problem when we have used them in the past.

2. Laptops work well in units? Is there a charge for the week? Are there available computers in Lobby?
Last year had access in computer room wired or wireless for a laptop. I believe they have room access wireless now. No experience.

3. Which building(s) should I ask for? Do they respond to your request

Buildings not an issue at all. Pros and Cons to each. The main question do you want a strip view which is available from tower 3 and 1/2 of tower 2.
Tower 1 has bistro, exercise room and easier parking access.

4. Grandsons, ages 11 and 9 -- other than pool are there things for them?

Games room, see lots of kids there. (Tower 2). Usually some programs for them too.

5. Parking fees?

None

6. Is the sofa-bed sleepable or should we bring foam mattress? Can we request one bedroom have twin beds not a queen? Not referring to the Master.

My son age 16 - 19 has usually slept on sofa bed during our various LV stays with no complaints.

7. Full size refrigerator? There are 7 in one 2 BR and 2 in another 1 BR to feed

You will have 2 full size refrigerators with the 2 rooms. If you are looking for grocery stores drive east on Flamingo or Tropicana

Any other advice? It is our son's 50th birthday :bawl: How can he be so old and us so young? Zillions of thanks for any insight!

Hope this helps. Any further questions ask away. Owner and multiple time visitor to LV.

John: So glad I have choices whether to bring laptop or not. My 10 yr old grandson is almost an 'addict' to computers so I just might not bring mine and use the downstairs computer there. Thank you

Sandy: Good news on the two beds as I am suspecting each parent will try to lasso each boy to go to sleep in their bed while there.

Randy -- many thanks for your response. This will be the first time so many of us are under one roof for a whole week. I'm not sure whether to be happy or nervous :)

Well, of course I did! Haven't we figured out long ago that we're living each other's timeshare lives? LOL!

Kauai Beach Villas is very nice. Just got here yesterday, but it already feels like home. I'm surprised how easy it is to find my way around the area, too. Bought an island map, but have only used it a few times. People are awesome. Kauai has the kind of Hawaii aloha spirit I remember from my high school days on Oahu. I may not come back to the mainland. I'm already househunting here, and Costco is hiring... :)

We have an exchange there in a two bedroom that starts January 30, 2009.

You're going to love it. Beautiful resort, miles of uncrowded (mostly unswimmable) beach right in front, and only five minutes from Lihue. Easy to find, and very easy to stay here. Enjoy!

Wyndham Grand Desert Questions

Hi All

We are also going to be staying at the Grand Desert this week (late check-in on Wednesday). We have a 5 month old granddaughter who will be staying with us. How do we go about getting a crib for her? We will be staying in a 3bedroom Presidential rented from another TUG member (thanks Jan!). Thank you TUG members for all the valuable information I have picked up on this site!

Thank you! I called the resort and they noted on the reservation that we will be needing a crib. We are looking forward to our stay at the Grand Desert. We will report back here on TUG after our visit.

We survived 5 days in Vegas, new marriage, 4 blended teens and 4 grandparents who shared a second room. And had a good time (most of the time). Family memories. Something for everyone in Vegas fortunately, so long as we could all get coordinated and out the door.

One nice thing with Wyndham, 3 TV's in a 2 bedroom. No kids fighting over the controls.
