WSJ/STJ Trip Report - Week 24+

Wow ,David you weren't kidding when you said it was going to be a long post :D .This report has everything and links to boot.Great thread. A lot of the WSJ threads I saved as reference you posted on and I used those posts for my trip. Thanks again.

Part 12: (Vacation Part 2 – ahhhhhh…. Lemon makes lemonade at Waterlemon)

OK - almost over…

What a great turn of events – yes, it will cost us another $600, another vacation day, and a missed party, but we get to extend our vacation which had been great up until Friday’s Hell-day and we get to spend the next 2 nights in a very nice 3Bd pool villa. I really like these remodeled 3Bd pool villas – for a family (or group of people) what a good resale purchase. We spend the rest of the day at the villa lazy around the pool – totally great. Too bad they do not have a 1bd version of this. The Bose speakers are great in the courtyard. At night we take the taxi-bus to Cruz Bay and go back to Rhumb Lines and get more Pupus and to share some of the spicy Pad Thai. We take leftovers home to enjoy later.

The next day I go down to O’Connor car rentals and rent a Jeep Laredo (only vehicle available) – head over to Starfish and picked up some minor supplies (water and beer) and get some sandwiches for a lunch trip and snorkel over to Waterlemon Cay at Leinster Bay (http://www.stjohnbeachguide.com/Beaches/leinster.html). Waterlemon has great snorkeling and we had been there last year by boat. The walk out is a bit long but no hard – I would estimate about 1 mile or so. We eat lunch there and it starts raining – we use the Neat Sheet to protect ourselves. Luckily, the rain stops (as it usually does) and we go out for a snorkel to Waterlemon Cay. The back side of the Cay has a strong current so we stay on the front side. On the way back we see a large stingray and a small green turtle – both we follow around a bit. On the way back there is a family of donkeys hanging out at the main beach. We get back to the car and decide to go to Trunk Bay and snorkel the Cay there. It is wonderful – it is a bit late and hardly anyone is there. These had to be the most romantic snorkels we have ever had – holding hands and taking our time on both. I tell Robin that I would marry her all over – she is so wonderful and adds a great calm to everything (she rarely complains or gets upset – she leaves that to me) – I love her so much.

We head back to the villa and hang out by the pool – fantastic day. We eat our leftovers and some remaining snacks, and get ready for our return home finally. I am finally feeling better (except for a cough) and we have a relaxing night by the pool.

Not much left to tell – we make sure we get the 11AM ferry to get to STT in time. Breeze thru Customs and TSA check – and manage to get Exit seats on the way home (we had separate middle seats – so a nice AA gate person came thru for us). The only hitch getting home is that we were delayed an additional 2.5 hours in MIA (with one of those annoying pullback from the gate to sit for 45 minutes). We don’t get back to SFO until about 1AM and get home around 2AM – I had to be at work for a 8:30 AM meeting – drag… it was going to be a long week, but our vacation was great (w/o Hell-day). Thanks again WSJ.

All’s well that ends well – hope you enjoyed this long trip report.

Minor note

The 42xx building you were in is one of the older units and is supposed to be refurbished this fall. The 43xx unit you were in is one of the "newer" of the original 3 bed units. Buildings 41 and 42 are the oldest; buildings 43 and 44 are no more than 5 or 6 years old, that's why they seem "refurbished". Take it from me, as we own both 4310 and 4210 weeks. Although when we were there last year (April 2007), the 4310 unit was starting to show wear and we were thinking that Starwood made a poor choice in the decor as it showed every little mark.

Lori

Hi Lori - I saw the differences between the 2 styles - I like the set-up of the newer buildings vs. the older and the decor (Robin also) - even with the dings.

The sliding wall was a bit strange. I really like the privacy of the pools and the outside area (sans mosquitoes) - those are great villas - but would prefer B43/44 if looking (not). The new BV villas are ultra-Westin decor.

Wow! Fantastic pictures. You guys looked quite happy to be there. Glad you had a wonderful time. :D Katherine

David/Robin

Very nice pictures! We loved seeing all of the views, of each Beach that you guys had visited.

Did you take any waterproof cameras for pics of the reefs and such?

Tom

Actually we did not take photos of every beach we visited as we were nervous about bringing a nice camera to the beach - the fine sand gets everywhere and no way to keep safe while on long snorkels.

We did not take waterproof cameras although they would have worked great since the water was so clear.

I think I saw you at the airport friday 6/20? You were telling the Westin of your flight problem. we ended up (my son and I) on the ferry out of the National Park that got to the Westin around 6:15- 6:30. I think I overheard you talking about your *bleep* day.

Yep that was us - the WSJ folks were very helpful where the AA holes were anything but... (never again on AA). We were on the same ferry as you back to WSJ - we were the ones that arrived on the taxi-bus right before the ferry left the NPS dock at Redhook.

btw - the details on the 'deal' mentioned above

2Bd Loft Patinum Season (week 19 - week 33)
Fixed: $67,995
Float: $57,995
1/2 price for EOY
SPG incentive = 30K SPs

will credit for the original purchase cost of our VG villa

Starwood Explorer Ultra Package (would do same day - called 'flip')
8 Days/7 nights in a BV 2Bd villa
2 years to return
after return - SPG account credited with 50K SPs
28K SPs when 1/2 of package is paid
(2 ferry passes included)
only $4570 which includes $195 processing fee
SVO will apply 100% of all payments received - up to a maximum of 10% of the total amount of the purchase price ($4375)

Rob - 1-518-859-2732

as mentioned in the WSJ BV photo thread -
(compared to the VG villas) the BV villas lack a pool, BBQs, parking close by, and balconies that are more open (not private))

As a somewhat interesting side-note (perhaps to some...) - I just compiled our costs for the trip (including WSJ MF portion, travel, food, drinks and entertainment - excluding investent loss for our WSJ villa {which I just accept as travel investment} and vacation time used) - and our trip came out to approx. $500/day for the 2 of us (10 days).
