Would I have gotten this exchange with a 'Request'?

I have a request in for a few Orlando Marriotts, with a 'weak' trader.

Yesterday, I was poking around, and saw a different Marriott available with my 'Stronger' trader----and yet I couldn't 'see' it with my weak trader.

IF I had a 'Request' in for this Marriott with my weaker trader-----would it have 'pulled' it?

(If the answer is YES, I will put more resorts onto my request list.)

Putting in an OGS is like wait listing, but it doesn't give you more trading power. It just puts you in the queue for the exchange.

That being said, sometimes II goofs up, so I would definitely call and see if you can get the exchange with your weaker trader.

It is hard to say. Probably. You seem to get a little nudge in your exchange power when setting up an ongoing request. It is usually about the same as calling in and the guide can match you to something you can't. If it requires to big of a jump you won't match. Usually if you are going to match to existing inventory, it would happen over night the first night after putting in the request. Ongoing requests won't overcome priority so if you matched with a Marriott and could not see it with a non marriott it may have been priority preventing it not trading power.

I guess I was thinking that perhaps once the Marriott passed the 21-day window, and became available to non-Marriott owners, that it would go down the list of requests (starting with the strongest weeks, down to the weakest.)

If there were NO requests, ONLY then would it be available to see as people were looking around to see what is out there for exchange possibilities.

I guess it DOESN'T work that way---so WHY PUT IN A Request?

Because OGS's are filled before the deposit goes online.

But you still have to have enough trading power for the trade.

For instance, let's say I use an off-season Orlando studio deposit, and put in an OGS for a 2 bdm. in Hawaii. Just because I'm the only request, doesn't mean I will get the exchange. Instead, it will go online, and someone with higher trading power will snag it.

With RCI an OGS is just a place in line. If you are using points through II, be it Interval points, Worldmark points, DRI points, etc, your priority is based on when you set up the ongoing search. For week deposits it is based on how strong your deposit is.

There have been numerous posts of specific exchanges not being visible when search but matching overnight after putting in an OGS for the unit. It doesn't always help though and your deposit may still not be strong enough even with a small boost.

If it is only a "....small boost"; I think I may never do an early deposit and put in a request again.

(I guess I'd still need to deposit a few months before the week of check-in, though.)

It is small. It may have been enough in your case it may not have been. If you don't want to both with an OGS, you don't have to. You can usually get the same kind of boost from calling II and asking for them to get the exchange.

Pat - Putting in an OGS is the best way to get an exchange, because the best exchanges never make it to the online inventory. They are snagged behind the scenes with OGS's, and you never see them.

If you only search online, you will only see the leftovers.

However, sometimes there are glitches, in which exchanges that should have matched, don't, so the best practice is to put in an OGS, and also search online - if you have the time and inclination.

No - a deposit that is too weak won't pull it, you still have to have sufficient trading power - example:

Owner A deposits a strong trader.

Owner B deposits a trader that doesn't have enough trading power.

They both put in an an identical OGS.

Two week are deposited that match their request.

Owner A gets the exchange and takes one week.

Owner B does not get the exchange, because his deposit is too weak, and the remaining week goes into the online inventory.

Owner B still can't get it, because his deposit doesn't have enough trading power.

It might it- might not. If you want to play around with it you can. Find something with another deposit that you can't see with your weaker one. Put in an ongoing request. If it doesn't match then you know it still doesn't have enough trading power even with an OGS. If it does, then you know it does. If it doesn't match that first night it likely never will. If you are doing this to test you would need to call the next day (after setting up the OGS) and cancel the OGS and have your money refunded if it does not match. If it matches and you don't want the exchange because you were just testing you would still need to call to cancel the exchange (during the 24 hr grace period) and have the II agent refund the exchange fee rather than letting the OGS continue.

What is your weak trader (resort, size, and season or week)? If you end up using it as a flex change because it doesn't have enough power, then setting up an OGS probably won't help much. You may want to see if you can get a better value from it using it with DAE or one of the other alt exchange companies.

With wyndham, you have the opportunity to search RCI inventory. But, if ogs gets filled before it goes online, does that mean it would still be better to go with an ogs

If you need to use a weak trader for an exchange, then you want every possible advantage that you can get - putting in an OGS as early as possible is to your advantage.

However, if it's a weak trader, maybe it just won't do what you want - but that is a separate issue. That's trading power - not the fault of the exchange process.

Look at it this way - if it's already a weak trader, how does it help you to NOT deposit it early, and NOT put in an OGS?

***If you see the exchange you want in the online inventory, call and ask II if you can use your weak trader. The worst thing they can say is no...

DAE doesn't go by seasons. So all 2 br exchange the same. They don't have the inventory that II has and you may need to rely on OGS even more but you can join for free and take a look at their online availability. You might get more value out of it than II. I don't think Trading places relies on seasons either. Some do some don't.

I'm not familiar with those resorts, but Nov. and Sept. are both very off-season for that region, which hurts trading power. You probably just don't have the trading power for the exchanges you are trying for.

Yeah, it seems that each year, the pickings get slimmer than the year(s) before for the WV week. (but some years my November week does better than other years-----possibly a hunting/Thanksgiving thing.)

I use them as traders, and being flexible have had good success.

That is, until about three years ago----since then, one of my weeks seems to have dwindled.

I have a friend who has relatives within two hours, but there was no interest in them taking it over.

Would it be taken for free on TUG---maybe/maybe not.

Just curious---which site sold it?

And, I'm not well versed to create a 'well-written Ad'---especially if ANY graphics/pictures etc.
