Thinking we would like to go to St John next spring, April/May. I would like to try to exchange into the Westin St. John. Would I be crazy enough to think I stand any chance at all of getting this trade with an OLCC weeks exchange. I think I know the answer but thought I might check with the experts before I waste my time. If this is an impossible trade, I should rethink our next vacation destination. We really want to do an exchange and not rent if possible.

Thanks for your input

I'd say, with the airfare prices going up, lots of people are rethinking there flying vacations (I for one have) so I believe your chances are a lot better now than before in getting this location.

You want to go during one of the busiest parts of the season. This is probably the most difficult exchange within the Starwood system, and even WSJ owners have difficulty even changing their weeks by a week or two. However, there are new units coming on line which may end up being bulk-banked, but I would venture that they would appear in a "lower" season, most likely September and October.

The bulk bank, if any, would go to II. Orange Lake trades in RCI.

Having said that, I met a wonderful Tugger who exchanged in through RCI while I was there this past May ... so RCI did end up with at least one deposit ... so maybe you'll luck out. You have nothing to lose by trying (except the very small cost of money for your exchange fee :)). Good luck!

May is not the busiest time of year in St. John; however, the owners of this resort typically go back to the resort and any weeks that get deposited are minimal.

I personally think it is always worth while to try for it but I would also have another plan as well. 2010 might be more realistic and I would start your search as far out as possible.

I got a last minute exchange through II( a puny Martha's Vnyd Summer hotel studio/hotel unit) and it was a rare, rare sighting.

I had about 10 days lead, but, wow, worth the crunch.
