Hi everyone. Our first post. My wife and I will be at WMH on October 5th and we have several questions. What building has the best view, what restaurants do you recommend, what golf courses should be played (and the best values), what sightseeing is recommended, and any other advice or warnings we should know about. We have only been SVN for a year, and we need help from all of you. Thank you, Bob and Gashi.

Welcome to TUG! The upper floors of the buildings that face the golf course in the older buildings are our favorites. Unfortunately I don't have the floorplans -- maybe another Tugger can post them for you. Be sure you get upper floors though as the bushes have grown so that first floor views are almost non-existent.

We like the older buildings because the master has a HUGE jacuzzi where the newer units just has a tub if you are in the two bedroom full unit.

There is a Riverfront (or something named similar) restaurant area nearby with xlnt choices of places to eat. You can call the Concierge for ideas and reservations. Also close by is a Casino.

We enjoyed the Hotel's spa also -- they run specials, so ask about that.

Paseo Drive is where the rich and famous shop and eat. Be sure to take a stroll there. One night/month the art galleries there have wine and cheese.

Enjoy :)

We enjoyed the Tommy Bahama restaurant for a few of our lunch outings. Nice salads etc. Not necessarily unique unless you've never been to one of their other places though.

We like to hike up at the top of the tram. Bring WARM clothest though.

We have friends who are thrift and resale shop fans. They insist that the best resale shops are in the area.

Welcome to TUG!

I live in the area. There is more to do and see than time will allow.

October is when the golf courses are over-seeded. Bermuda grass is replaced with Rye. Some courses will be closed. Many will be open during your stay. However, if allergic to grass pollens, bring your medicine. It will be in the air, everywhere.
Best prices valley-wide can be had 24 hours in advance of play, by calling 760- 321-book. Typical discount is 50%.

Desert Willows Golf Resort, located across from JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa on Country Club Drive, is owned and managed by the City of Palm Desert. Unique, award winning, beautiful desert-scape courses are a must play, one of a kind experience.
While there, stop in to City Wok at the adjacent shopping center. Great Chinese food, fresh ingredients, cooked to order. Take out also.

Several independent restaurants I recommend:

Only Omri - Hwy 111, Palm Desert. California/Mediterranean. fogedabodet!

Shame on The Moon, Frank Sinatra Drive , just off Hwy 111, Rancho Mirage.
Piano, cocktails, patio, varied excellent menu, fine dining, pleasant service.

Fusion One Eleven. Not much to look at from the street, located in a strip center on Hwy 111, Palm Desert, Very good late night dining.

Europa - at Villa Royale in Palm Springs. Continental. Intimate dining room, or outdoor patio. Wine aficionados love it.

Thank you everybody. Your advice has been great.

CathyB, I called WMH and requested a 2nd floor, specifically building 32,33 or 42. I was told they said they had the best views and were quiet.

Denise, ty for the map, and Fletcher, if we get bored at the pool, we will take the hike you recommended.

FredM, you have saved me. I will be sure to check which golf courses are overseeded.

Also, thank you all for your restaurant recommendations.

Everyone, please keep the advice coming in. We appreciate it.

Bob and Gashi
