Hey everyone,

Strange question I'm hoping someone can help answer for me.

In the confirmation for my trip in Sept to WKORVN, I noticed this bullet point.
SMOKE-FREE RESORT. Smoking is NOT permitted in the units or public common areas.
I'm considering taking my gf's parents with us (since we got a 2bd) but they are both avid smokers (thankfully a habit my gf and I don't have :)).

Can someone tell me if there are designated smoking areas/places they'll easily be able to go to at the resort to get their fix? LOL

Thanks,
Nico

At some resorts, that can get you a big cleaning fee if they notice any smoky smell in the unit. I would not want to risk it.

$250 fee for smoking in the unit. There are smoking areas. I really hate it when people smoke on the lanai below me.

You notice Denise said "below me." She must have good success with her top floor/building request. ;)

Are the smoking areas convenient? I want to give them realistic expectations so that they aren't unhappy if they do come. :)

I'm not sure - I'd call the resort for a definitive answer:

I don't remember seeing a smoking area, other than the empty field north of WKORVN. I agree with Denise that the smoke from other Lanais (even when not adjacent) can be very annoying to non smokers.

The "indoor" answer is posted right on mystarcentral under "Our Resorts", "Villas" section for WKORVN:

"Breathe in the fresh air. The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas North features non-smoking villas. While guests are prohibited from smoking inside the villas, smoking is permitted on the balcony or lanai of the villa, if so equipped. Violation of this smoking policy may result in a non-refundable $250 penalty."

I was at WKORV (and WKORVN) 2 weeks ago. Surprisingly, except for the buildings/structures, there are no other "non-smoking areas" on the grounds of the resorts proper :( - although I saw no outward signs of encouraging smoking (Sad to say, my wife smokes and asked.) I assume that anyone who is inconsiderate enough to smoke outside in the vicinity of other people will get well-deserved (IMO) glares - at least. Salty

If you search the units, you will usually find one ash tray in the cabinet over the refrigerator. I assume it is for use to smoke on the Lanai because the units are no smoking. Walking around the resort this week I have not seen any designated smoking areas on the resort proper. Seice I don't smoke, I haven't been looking, but I am sensitive to smoke and have not smelled any smoking areas.
