Hello TUGgers,

We are here now -- at WKORV-N. We have stayed only a few times at one of the properties and have always enjoyed our experience here. This time, Jonell and I are in Building 6, high floor, overlooking the island grounds and pool. It's quite beautiful and I enjoy the (spacious) balcony for sunset dinner, although we don't see the ocean directly.

I searched through legacy threads and never really found anything that compared the two original properties. I'm sure something is there but I couldn't find it from the Search Instructions that I used.

So...............which property do TUGgers prefer?

I've been at WKORV once (in 2021) and loved the bigger pool and great BBQs. Our room had a limited but good OV.

I've been to WKORV-N several times (3?) and always had a north facing room that had an ocean view -- this is our first "interior" view, but I really like it.

I could see the advantages of either building and would welcome the feedback of regular visitors.

Thank you!

Best,

Greg

Hi Greg,

Below is an older comparison from the sticky thread and a recent discussion of best views from North and South.
Personally, I'd take the one where I could negotiate the best deal. You have a much better chance at getting a good ocean view at the -n property simply because more rooms have ocean views. However, if you ever want to rent or exchange, a guaranteed ocean view will fetch you more money.

From a thread a few months ago:

If you're trying to figure out if you want to purchase at WKORV or WKORV-N, here are some of the differences:

WKORV
Resort is older, with its first building in 2003
Bigger units when comparing 1 bdrm -> 1 bdrm, etc.
They offer a handful of OF "deluxe" units that are a few hundred feet larger than the standard 2 bdrm, with an equally impressive lanai (25 x 7.5'), but also cost a few hundred $ higher in MFs
Pool has slides
Buildings are perpendicular to the ocean, which gives the OF units a better view, but at the expense of OV and IV units.
The lock-out shares a small common foyer, which might be awkward if you give up or rent out one side or if you have young children who might lock their side.
The lanai only comes with the 1 bdrm side, not the studio villas except the OF villas. (The studio side of OF villas is approx. 90 sq.ft.) The standard lanais are bigger than at the sister property.
The decor is a neutral pallet (reminds me of Floridian interior design)
There are lots of big windows to let in natural light
The table seats 6
Each side of the lock-out has a King bed
2 data ports and wireless capability
Lighted tennis courts
Workout room
Kitchen offers a full oven in the 1bdrm side and a micro/convection oven on the studio side
Hallways are more like hotel hallways (inside/air-conditioned)

WKORV-N
Resort is newly built, with occupancy beginning mid-2007 and being complete in early 2008.
Units are smaller (1 bdrm side is 150 sq. ft smaller than original property and studio is 79 sq. feet smaller), with the living room and master bedroom taking the biggest reduction.
There are no "deluxe" units at all
Kiddie pool has a pirate ship but no slide (and no lazy river)
Buildings are angled, which give OV and IV owners a better view but a lesser view for OF when compared to original
Each side of the lock-out has a door leading directly to the hallway, plus a common door (think of adjoining rooms in a hotel), which might or might not be preferable for parents with young kids.
Each side of the lock-out has its own lanai, with the studio being smaller than the 1 bdrm side, though the lanais are smaller than its sister property
The decor is darker, with cherry wood and black stained furniture (reminds me of "W" hotels - stark lines and "clean" vs. "warm.")
The windows are much smaller and let in less natural light
Dining room table seats four
There's a king in the 1 bdrm side and a queen in the studio side.
Flat screen tv's and four data ports (vs. 2), plus high speed internet
No tennis courts, but you can use the sister property's. There will be a full service spa on the north property. I don't think its sister property has one.
Not sure if they'll have a workout room.
Kitchen has a micro/convection oven (e.g. the 1 bdrm side does NOT have a full oven.
Open air hallways

We own at WKORV-S, and have stayed in all 3 resorts - we loved them all!

I’ve stayed at both. Can’t go wrong with either! Will be trying out all three Maui properties over several weeks this July.

I've stayed in all three as well.
With Nanea, you'll want to avoid the rooms near the front of the resort due to the shuttle bus noise (see link below).

We’ll be at all three in June and will later have a video comparing all three. The only problem is that I can’t fly my drone in that area of the island  but I can at Marriott Maui Ocean Club.

I prefer the south - feels more open. N and S have great snorkeling reef out front that Nanea lacks. Plus they are essentially the same resort Nanea seems too busy - stay away from PL view/shuttle noise.
The only one I would consider buying on the resale market would be OF south.

Thank you all, for your comments (and thank you Phyllis for the links! Greatly appreciated!)

This is a lovely property and we will return -- I've been exploring WKORV also and like the broader footprint of that property as well. We are intrigued by the "windier" nature at WKORV-N and aren't sure if that's because you have buildings side by side that channel /funnel the wind or just the time of year, but it's definitely stronger than our MOC experience. And stronger meaning the back of the lounge chair folds onto the horizontal part -- routinely -- strong wind!

But the reef just offshore is amazing and this a beautiful facility. Now that kids are out of the house, it is very possible that the Westin properties may become a more frequented destination for us as it becomes harder to assemble a family vacation requiring a 3BR. We knew this day would come -- and not complaining -- and its wonderful to have great options to visit for the two of us! Thanks again for comments!

Best,

Greg

We love South and considered purchasing at North but I just knew what I wanted and South was it.

We've consistently had windy vacations in April/May, so it may be the time of year. And agreed, the reef in front of the Westin's is great.

I own at both, and like both. I am here now, staying at N. We've been coming since S first opened.

I like S when staying in a 1 BR, especially if I get a high floor and maybe one of the standalone 1BR. We sometimes like to go to the part of the beach without rocks, just south of Kahekili Park, and S is more convenient for that. Maintenance fees are also a little lower.

I also like N, especially if I stay in a studio, since the studios in S don't have a real balcony. I also like that you can walk out the back of the ground level units. N feels calmer than S to me. I prefer the Pailolo bar location over Auntie's, though prices have gone up so much I rarely go to either one anymore.

I don't have young kids and can count on one hand the times I've used the pool anywhere. We prefer to be in the ocean if we're going to swim.

It hasn't been all that windy this stay, our first one in mid-April/early May. We've experienced much stronger winds in February and September/October.
