WKORV Owners' Update tomorrow

I am going to the update tomorrow to get the $50 and ask questions. Anyone have anything they would like me to ask? My husband says he actually always feels sorry for the sales people as I know WAY more than they do. And of course I am not afraid of "updating" them!

Yes, pitiful isn't it? Since we are already owners, that is the most they would offer. We didn't want any points, since we bought resale that does not do anything for us.
It is supposed to be 60 minutes only, and trust me, I am holding them to it!

Ours went over the 60 min and in the end as we declined to purchase and requalify our resale purchase the lady didn't even shake our hand at the end. They are pushing langumar.

My wife and I went last Sunday at Vistana. We "had" to attend for 90 minutes because we bought resale. It started out nice but went downhill rapidly. Ending up by calling us cheap and said we bring down the "property values" to other owners. They did offer us $8,ooo on our even year ownership bring the price down to 14,000 for 78,000 points... we said no thanks. For that abuse we got $50 ... not worth it and never again

Nobody has to attend. You only have to subject yourself to "that abuse" if you want the $50. Why waste everyone's time, including your own, for a measly $50? When two people are willing to take time out of their vacation to sit and listen to something they do not want to hear, and for so little money, it makes them look pretty needy.

Fastest Update Ever!

Hi all,
Well we were there for EXACTLY 18 minutes. It was actually interesting to see the guy's face change when he looked at our stats and saw that we had bought resale. And my husband told him right off the bat that we wanted nothing to do with Mexico......we didin't know they were pushing the Mexico property. He said, "But what about the Carribean?" We said NO MEXICO. I always get sick there. Why go? I love Hawaii! Anyway, he got the impression from my husband that we would only be interested in a "deal" to upgrade to a 2 bedroom (which we would be by the way) but certainly not for $30K which is what they would want.....the difference between what we paid for our 1 bedroom on ebay (about $5400 if I remember correctly) and THEIR price for a 2 bedroom EOY. Yikes. He was polite, gave us our $50 and we were out of there. I AM always interested in what they have to say, and I always try to learn something. If it was too annoying I would not go.

I think it's amusing that they hound you to death to attend a presentation, even offering cash/points incentive to attend, and then get incensed when you don't buy. Here's an idea: Don't offer incentives to attend. I guarantee you that you'll cut down on the number of people who have zero interest in buying.

I'd also appreciate if they'd take my refusal/silence more gracefully. If I don't show up within two hours of my arrival to accept my "gift bag," it's because I know that it's a disguise to hound me into attending a sales presentation. Oh, and calling me REPEATEDLY just makes me more resolute to ignore you.

I also think it's highly amusing that they call resale owners "cheap" and accuse them of devaluing the property. As a resale owner at one of the most expensive TSs in the system, I could not disagree more. When you have owners who don't want to own anymore (or cannot because they simply cannot afford it), there are currently two options available to them: 1) default; 2) sell to a resale buyer. Because #1 directly impacts the MFs, and in turn the resale value, I find #2 a much more palatable option. If Starwood would offer to purchase deeds from owners who want out, then there'd be a third option, which would give Starwood much more control over the current market price. They choose not to.

In a way they are utilizing option #3.....they funnel potential defaulters into option 2 path, and then exercise ROFR, in effect purchasing the property back for a fraction of the sale price. Then they turn around and resell to another sucker at a "discount" off the original developer price!

When we were last in WKORV we had to attend because of an Explorer package (don't ask....that was before I discovered TUG!!), but we had already bought a resale in the interim. The sales dude was trying to get us to buy EOY in Lagunamar in order to retro the unit, which I MAY have considered (relatively low MF) but the manager tried to push WPORV. No way I was falling for that....ended up spending about an hour....got $75. Definitely short end of the deal, but not too terrible.

We're at KORV right now and did our "owners update" this morning. Easy 4,500 SPG points. Think I pissed 'em off. They ROFRed my $5K purchase last Oct for another 1BR OV week. I told them I'd drop $10K on the table right now - a 100% profit for them in less than 3 months! Of course, that was out of the question.

It is clear they are building up inventory again for when the economy turns...

We received a call from the sales manager yesterday apolgizing for the salesperson's actions an d he asked for a verbal description of how we were treated and he followed up with an email asking or the same. They credited us with 10,000 SPG points for the experience.

His best comment is that it doesn't matter that we bought resale, we should be treated the same as a developer purchaser as we selected to be part of Starwood/Westin.

Did you call the manager and complain about your treatment or was it a routine follow-up call?

We started with the Concierge trying to get our room credit certificate after realizing we did not get ours. Told them outr story, they sent email to her manager. Let the person at the check in know our story when I picked it up. They were notified about our experience.
