I know I have to check the almanacs...but wondering about thoughts for Branson or Nashville Dec-March. My husbands work is seasonal and that is the only time of the year we can travel. Been going to Florida for years..and would like to see some new places..we usually drive.. any suggestions appreciated... thanks!
Lucille

January is the month voted most likely to have yucky weather in Tennessee.

February tends to be OK, though you can still get bad weather. We don't get a lot of snow, but tend to get ice storms.

March is usually OK, but we head somewhere warmer for our Spring break. A few times we've left a day or a few hours early because snow was coming in. If there was snow in March, it probably wouldn't last too long.

April is probably one of the best months to visit. The early flowering trees (redbuds then dogwoods) and bulb plants (tulips, daffodils) are glorious.

December could also be a good choice. We hardly ever get any winter weather that early and the Opryland Hotel would be nicely decorated. If you also visit the eastern end of the state, Dollywood has a few million lights, as does the town of Pigeon Forge.

My biggest concern for you in Jan - Mar would be the weather you might encounter between here and NY.

Sheila

Thank you so much for your reply and advice...the weather between here and there is our concern too... we may consider december...christmas lights sound lovely to see...if not wait until we really retire... it sounds lovely... thank you again..we let you know! lucille

Hey if you are up to flying..Texas is great for winter too, and the airfare isn't that bad.

Never having been to Texas, winter or otherwise, what is so great for a winter trip. Hope there is no sking involved.

No skiing in Texas but few years ago kids were building snowman on Galveston Beach instead of sandcastles. This was very unusual for Texas. Weather is usually mild to cool. I've seen people actually in the beach water during New Years week.

Well, if you are thinking Branson in December, you should know that many of the shows close down the closer you get to Christmas and often don't start again until February. You can check the play dates of the performances on line. Tennessee- well, you probably won't do white water rafting that time of year and the weather is subject to change. Texas is good then-depending on where you go. I think San Antonio and Corpus Christi and Brownsville are just fine. If you're talking Dallas, think again. Personally, I don't have much use for Galveston. It could use a good cleaning and facelift.

As a matter of fact San Antonio is one of the places I would like to see ... i did go to Dallas many years ago...(and of course to the famous "JR" ranch... on a business trip..in August..it was extremely hot!! I have been to southern cal in March...flying of course....but i always skip over the interior of the USA...and hope to see some of these places while my feet can still get me there. Thank you for your suggestions... Lucille
