We have an opportunity for an exchange to Williamsburg in early February. How's the weather (usually)? We're mostly interested in visiting historic places (including Yorktown, Jamestown) and hope this would be a reasonable time to visit, but would love to hear of experiences of other TUG'ers to the area at this time of year. :)

Williamsburg ain't Florida.

Snow, icy, snowy, dark, windy, damp, and cold. Some resorts have small indoor pools. If you are into history, remember what happen to the troops at Valley Forge.

I would not bring the golf clubs.

Perhaps consider taking advantage of the $199 sale rather than doing an exchange? Save the exchange (TPUs) for another time.

II Certificate that expiress soon

Thank you for the reply...I'm trying to exchange a II "certificate week" that expires in March. So far, I haven't found anything suitable in SW, SE, Florida, etc. Any suggestions?

I don't know what your weather is like in Oklahoma, but I asked this question a few years back and Big Matt answered (he lives in the area). I can't remember the details, but Williamsburg in February still sounded better than New York in February!

If it is one with the restricted grid all of Florida is blacked out in February. It might drop off during flex change. If you have already made an exchange you might want to call up and see if you can get an XYZ in Florida.

I like Williamsburg and live abour 4.5 hours away but feel it is a location best suited for April-Oct and/or a short trip during the Christmas holiday time. It is not a fly to vacation spot in February.

Hilton Head has lot of availability during February. While it might be cold 30-40's you might also have days in the 60-70's something that won't happen in Virginia at that time of year.

Hilton Head a Possibility

Thank you for your suggestion for Hilton Head. We'd do that, but we have a week reserved there November 6th and following. We did Hilton Head last year at this time and loved it. February may be too soon for a return. We may go for Las Vegas in February. Isn't TUG great...I've received good information from many quarters.

Vegas is cold then too. And none of the pools are heated or indoors. I was really unhappy when I went in November for 10 days - I even went to the Rodeo for 2 nights. Good thing the activities department gave away FREE alcohol and gave me leftovers to take back to the room. Lots of leftovers. And the room did not have WIFI of any form.

Did I mention it was a long 10 days? And cold, too.

What are the average temps, weather conditions near Williamsburg after Thanksgiving week, but prior to Christmas week?
I guess I'm most interested on how they compare to New England, where it can be damp, cold, stormy at that time.
I've been to Williamsburg several times, except very late Fall to late March.

It is very nice to just turn on the fire place at any time. Adds to the Manor Club appeal. That being said, it is cold in February, no doubt about it.

The week after Thanksgiving could be 60 degrees or it could be 40. It usually doesn't snow that early. It will be a good time to visit Colonial Williamsburg due to the Christmas decorations. There will be great shopping at the outlets and in Merchants Square. It is a very romantic time in Williamsburg.

February is also very tricky. I've seen 70 degrees in late February or 2 feet of snow. The other thing about February is that some of the Colonial Williamsburg activities (and perhaps restaurants and shops) may not be open due to cost cutting. Everything else in town with the exception of Busch Gardens and Water Country are open and there won't be many tourists.

The best time of year to go for weather is from April 15th through Memorial Day and October 1st through about November 15th.

Right now in the Colonial WMBG it is 44 degrees it should reach 60 degrees by this afternoon.

Record High 83 degrees in February 1997

Record Low -1 degrees in February 1996

Average low's in February 30 degrees and the high 50 degrees.

Also, we live about 60 miles from Williamsburg,VA.

Here's a link to a website that will provide the information on historical weather you are looking for.

We go to Wmsburg just about every February for President's Day weekend (not the same as a week, I know). The worst time was two or three years ago when the temps hovered in the 20s. Biggest problem with that is heat pumps, the norm in developments like these, don't work well in 20 degree weather. The heat in 20 degree air is too hard to extract. Our unit was about 45 when we checked in and it took hours to increase at all.

That said, the average high temperature in February is in the 40s.
