Will you be YOUNG (awake) or OLD for New Year's???

For quite a number of years now, I have sent out an e-mail to MOST of my contacts.

It goes as follows:

I am sending out my annual survey wondering how everyone is, and if they are OLD, or YOUNG.

By MY definition, for New Year's Eve, you will be OLD if you are NOT awake at midnight. (sorry if you have to work, etc.)

You can consider yourself YOUNG if you will be AWAKE at midnight.

One exception: you can't nap until 11:45, then wake up and be considered young!!!

The only way I will be awake at midnight is if I wake up at 11:59 and have to go to the bathroom. So, I guess I’m old.

I would like to be awake as I have watched the ball drop at Times Square since I was old enough to stay up until midnight. Tomorrow, rather later this evening, we need to be at YYZ at 3AM for our flight to Belize so by midnight I'll probably be asleep. There is also a time difference to account for. I am hoping my earplugs can block the noise of all the parties and fireworks around our apartment. Maybe I can see the ball drop on a replay.

We are going to be out with the batch of 'usual suspects', and I suspect the requisite flute of something bubbly will be quaffed at midnight local time. I'll be there in body, if not in spirit(s).

Pedro47 a case can be made that the new decade starts 1/1/2021, as the current 'common era' began on year '1'. there was no year'zero', so all decades would begin with a '1'. I'm not taking any chances though. If anybody asks, at midnight 1/1/2020, I'll enter my 8th decade of living. Hoping for 9, but at some stage it's out of your control. Who knows?

It's a rare night I'm NOT up at midnight, so I guess I'll be calendar-defyingly young.
Odds are I will have lapsed onto "old" for a while sometime that afternoon, as usual.

We will be at Bahama Breeze (Restaurant) w- another couple.
We will dine on lobster quesadilla and assorted rum drinks.
Just before midnight, they hand out a small glasses of champagne.

I think that makes us middle-aged.

Young but we don’t participate in any activities. I just usually watch a movie. However I do go to bed shortly after midnight cause it’s FOOTBALL!!!!!

Awake until everyone goes home. Buzz on by 11 pm. Smiles all night. Pizza at 12:05. Looks like we will have decent winter weather tonight so the deck fire and heaters should be fine.
