I'm receiving conflicting messages....

Marriott's resale department told me they would not resell a resale unit. "If you buy it on the external market, you have to sell it on the external market as well."

I know a few of you have written that you have either sold a resale unit through Marriott or believe it's possible so I called a second time today. Again....the same story. They say they will not sell a resale purchased unit.

I have plenty of time and would rather get 60% of retail than ebay money for it.

Can someone else confirm that I am getting good informaiton from Marriott?

Thanks in advance!

I believe this has been done- Charles (his name here is CMF) sold a Grande Vista unit back to Marriott. He got more than he had paid re-sale for it. They may have changed the rules though so who knows. I guess try talking to different people there and see if one will do it. At the least try to get something in writing from them.

It may depend on how bad they want your unit -- i.e. a highly desired platinum or platinum plus week where they have little or no inventory.

Just guessing.

BUT, was this part of an upgrade? Or was this just an outright sale to Marriott.

Terry

I sold a resale Grade Vista Gold week back to Marriott.

Charles
And if you don't mind, how long ago? Thanks, again!

Clarification: Just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing....I was talking about Marriott taking my week on consignment and taking the 40% commisison. Do they just plain buy back some high demand weeks? If I upgrade do they buy back the old week? It's amazing to me that I can get more information and better information here than from them.....

Not an upgrade. Straight up sale. I used the money to replenish the piggy when when I bought Barony Beach. I don't remember the numbers exactly but it went something like this"

  • My Grande Vista purchase price $7,700 + closing
  • My Barony Beach purchase price $9,500 + closing
  • Grande Vista sale price to Marriott $11,875 net(?)

Marriott made a verbal commitment to buy the Grande Vista week late last year and I got the check in Feb or March of this year.

Easy breezee.

But they only buy them back when they want to.

Charles

Genios,

You are getting BAD information from Marriott. I have had Marriott sell a week for me that I purchased resale from a private party. This transaction took place within the past 60 days...so I'm pretty sure that the policy has not changed. I did not upgrade to another resort. Indeed, I have owned seven Marriott weeks at five different resorts...and I have never purchased any of them from Marriott.

If Marriott wants the week you have to sell, then they will resell it for you regardless of how, and from whom, you purchased it. In my case, I am making over $6000 in profit...even though Marriott is taking 40% of the total purchase price.

I know it's frustrating when you get conflicting information, but the people you are talking to at Marriott are not telling you the truth. Either they don't know any better, or they are lying. It's as simple as that.
