Why does PFD take so long?

I've done two PFD. One with a white week from Christmas Mountain Village that had not previously been deposited into my RCI Weeks acct., and one of a Red Dikhololo week that had been in my RCI Weeks acct. for over a year.

The CMV White week came through in a few days. It's been 10 days since I initiated the PFD of the Dik week, and it still hasn't shown up (it did disappear from my Weeks acct. immediately, of course). I called RCI after 8 days, and again today, and both times was told "it takes at least 7 days for this to go through."

I asked why, and was told that someone within RCI has to verify ownership of the week, and then send e-mail to someone else in RCI. This confuses me, as RCI confirmed my ownership of the week when I deposited it into Weeks in the first place, so why do so again? Does it really take 2 weeks to process e-mail at RCI?

The guide was not able to give me a satisfactory answer as to what is so time consuming to do a PFD. I realize that many people are doing them right now, but if each one takes 5 minutes, one person could process almost 100 in a day, so what's the holdup? Madge, could you explain exactly what the process is so that I, and others like me, can understand why it takes so long to deposit a week that RCI already has?

Thanks,

sc

Just as a followup, I called RCI at the 10, 12, and 14 day marks to ask about my PFD. I was originally told 7-10 days for the deposit. At 10 days, I was told "Just a couple more days." At 12 days, I was told, "It could take 10-14 days; just a couple more days." Today (14 days), I was told, "It could take up to 14 business days," and so I asked to speak to a supervisor.

Everett Lanham spoke with me, and said that it can take up to 21 days, that he didn't know why these took so long, and that he would give the PFD backoffice a couple more days because he heard last week in a meeting that they were complaining how far behind they were. He agreed that the right answer was to hire more staff or improve their procedures, but that's easier to say than do.

The upshot is I still don't have my week deposited, no one at RCI seems to know their a** from their elbow when it comes to explaining why PFD is so time consuming, but at least they're polite while not providing service (everyone I've spoken with has been thoroughly professional, once we get past the weird account number I have because of my Aussie points membership).

I repeat my request to Madge to find out why Points For Deposit takes so long, and to explain it to us. Better yet, perhaps RCI could streamline the process, particularly for weeks that have already been verified during the initial deposit.

Regards,

Finally!

My points showed up today, 17 days after I initiated the Points for Deposit.

SteveChapin,

It was likely not the Points-for-Deposit request that took so long, but rather the verification process. Your South Africa week needed to be verified by your resort through our staff in South Africa. When you experience a delay with these deposits, you may wish to send an e-mail South Africa directly at TheSpecialists@RCI.co.za. Glad to hear the points are there now.

Madge,

Your answer to this, and to the other poster asking essentially the same question, are contradictory. As I stated above, my week had been verified by RCI when I deposited it into the Weeks side. You stated that it is a fairly simple process if it has already been verified (in response to the other poster), but told me that it had to be reverified.

So, which is it? I repeat my request for an explicit answer as to what takes place when doing PFD with a week that has already been verified when it was deposited into weeks. As you can tell, several of us are dissatisfied with what seems to be arbitrary foot dragging by RCI, and it doesn't help when we can't get a straight answer to a simple question.

Regards,

It is especailly galling that the service has slowed down after the new $26 charge per week deposited for points was started on Jan 1, 2006. IMHO it appears that new $26  charge was not spent on ways sorely needed improve that service but just to improve profits.

I had a similar problem as the OP. I deposited 4 weeks on Feb 23 and yesterday when I called I was told by RCI's VC Jason that RCI VC Howard Johnson on Feb 23 did not get the ball rolling and did not charge my charge card the $104 for the four weeks deposited I offered for deposit on that day.

Jason first said my last deposit was made last December and not on Feb 23, 2006. Jason did some searching for those 4 weeks I had deposited on Feb 23 and after putting me on hold for 9 minutes said he had found them. He said that Howard Johnson had not billed me $108 on Feb 23. I will now have to check my charge card statement to make sure that I am not charged $104 two times for those 4 weeks I deposited.

When I talked to RCI VC Barry Gill today at 9:37 CST he gave me the same speil that the OP got in regard to timeframes.

So after a 9 day delay caused by a RCI VC we now get to pay $108 more for 4 deposits compared to no charge for the same lack of service.

Mr Gill seemed a bit upset  that I said that I plan to call every day to follow the (Lack of) progress.

It just seems to me like there is a lot of doubletalk. I transferred my already deposited weeks unit (already verified) into PFD one week ago. The VC told me it would take two weeks. When I asked why, since it had already been verified, I was told that RCI was just behind because of everyone wanting to use the PFD!!!!!!! What's wrong with this scenario?? When it was a free transaction it took just a couple of days. Now that it cost $26 it takes two weeks???

Oh by the way those 4 weeks worth about 100,000 RCI Points deposited way back on Feb 23 and as of Today March 12 @ 3:47 PM CST  those 4 weeks still have not been deposited into our RCI Points account. This IMHO is very feeble RCI POints customer service,

If we had needed those points to make a exchange during the past 2 plus weeks we would be up the creek even after paying $104 to deposit those 4 weeks.

I feel for ya Bruce. I transferred mine from my weeks account on Feb 23 and when I called a couple of days ago they said it will still be probably another week. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, the VC hung up on me!!! I'll wait a couple more days and then seek out, or try to seek out, a supervisor again (without getting hung up on). Good luck.

It would be bad if I needed them to use but we had about 9 RCI Point exchanges and our RCI Points and airfares for 2006 taken care of and are down to only 140,000 RCI Points untill those 100,000 RCI are put into our account so things are not to bad.

I am far more comfortable with at least 250,000 RCI Points in our account so we do not miss out on nice trades and airfare a ways out before their check in- use dates because of a lack of Points in our RCI account due to delays  on RCI's end.

But the delay is frustrating  in light of the new substancial charges for poorer service on getting those already paid for deposits for RCI points into our RCI Points account.

We have other 2006 weeks that are at least worth about another 400,000 to 600,000 RCI Points but I may start giving II and the independants some of those weeks instead RCI especially, if the cost of doing trades with them would be less.

Two days max.

I have used the PDF two or three times with weeks that were already spacebanked before they started charging a fee. In most cases the points were in my account the next day, but once it took two days. I wonder if the delay is spacebanking the week.

When I called and talked to a RCI VC they performed the PDF while I was on the phone, but told me it might be a few days before it showed up in my account.

Madge, now 11 more days have passed so far since in first posted about RCI's screw up and still those 4 weeks worth of points have not been put into our account.

Note we first called to deposit those weeks way back on Feb 23, 2006.

At 9:05 this moring we talked to RCI's Judith and her stonewalling high handed arragant down talking tone to me was not tolerated by me after now going through a 20 day. She then got her Supervisor Matt Gordon on the line. Matt I and I had talked about a more than a year back about a differant RCI Points screw on our RCI Points account.

Matt let me vent about the delays and IMHO about RCI's Judiths unprofessioal attitude and pleasantly said he would try to move it along.
I will be leaving tomarrow and it would have been nice to have those points in my account so I could have used them.

Bruce,

If you have waited more than two weeks for any Points-for-Deposit request, there is something wrong. It just doesn't take that long.

Everyone who is still waiting, please send a message to feedback@rci.com with TUG in the subject line so the Communications Team can get involved and get these processed! They should also be able to tell you specifically what caused the hold-up.

Madge thanks for your concern. The last of the 4 weeks were completely credited to our account sometime between March 16 and March 25 while we were at our Hotel ON Cay at St Croix, US Virgin Islands.

There was nothing wrong with those weeks as they were not rejected, etc. They were first deposited on Feb 23 and not in our account when I last checked on March 16 which makes it at least 3 weeks before those 4 weeks were all accredited to our account.

Lets hope with all the money now being paid in at $26 per week for weeks deposited into RCI will higher enough help to get weeks verified in one or 2 days and not 2 or 3 weeks.

IMHO if they are going charge for a service when before there was no charge then a reasonable person would exspect better service and not poorer  service.

That's certainly not the case now, and in my case (I'm the OP on this thread), it took longer to PFD a week that had been spacebanked several months earlier than it did to PFD a week that had not been spacebanked at all.

As per my March 4 post on this string I it was that RCI's Howard Johnson simplely screwed up as per information supplyed by the other VC's

I think you should be happy you can use PFD. I bought a points resort relying on RCI's representations that I could then use my Silverleaf under PFD. Well, guess what? Despite what it says on its website, despite what the VC said and despite the fact that neither Madge nor a customer service representative did anything to help, I can't use PFD. According to Silverleaf, it's because they won't make any more money on it. Nevermind, that it would be helpful to me. Nevermind that it costs Silverleaf nothing. Madge tried to gloss over this by saying they didn't want to make their resort members unhappy and that they have rules. Well, that's just doesn't cut it! RCI made their statements about PFD, RCI knew what the contracts between them and the resorts said (at least I hope they did) and they advertised that it was possible to do this without exception. Madge's answer was either ill-informed or an attempt to spin the issue so that RCI didn't look bad. In either case, it was non-responsive and insulting.

Jimster,

I stand behind the response I made to you about this issue here. If our continuing to offer Points-for-Deposit were to cause problems with our affiliated resorts, the whole program could be in jeopardy.
