Why Are There Ducks In My Pool?

At least you have had a gator in your pool, like one of my neighbors.
It was a small one, who the game officer removed.

Lol I have ducks in my pool every morning at 6 AM! same two ducks they just enjoy my pool!
A few years back, we had a pair take up in our pool before we opened it for the season. The cover had water and a lot of leaves, so I'm sure it looked like a local pond to them. As soon was we drained the cover to prepare to open that spring, they vacated.

I love that this thread started in 2007, then was resurrected in 2019, then again in 2023 by a first poster. It just proves that the words written on the internet are immortal.

When we lived in Texas I woke up one Sunday morning to an alligator in my pool. Another time there was a water moccasin in the skimmer basket, and another time a black window in the skimmer basket.

I would prefer the ducks and also why I prefer living in the PNW.

Why a duck? Why not a chicken?

This reminds me of our stay in Lancaster, PA. I found a house that we loved at a really good price so we bought it 6 months before my family could move from our house in St. Louis. I moved there in December to start a new job and lived there with only a futon, TV, desk with computer, and two folding director chairs. It was a large house on 1 acre lot on a hill overlooking a small river and Amish farm across the river. Two ducks had made their winter home in the pool, and I frequently saw deer, cattle, and Amish buggies. The ducks stayed until we opened the pool in May, but it really added to the tranquility of living there.

I am on the Board of my local swim-and-tennis club. Just learned that we have had two geese in and around the pool for a couple of weeks -- ever since some nearby construction filled in the pool-type area that had been there. The pool has been acid-washed, but not yet filled with water. They have left droppings in the pool and on the neighboring lawn.
Does anyone know if the droppings stain the bottom of the pool, and more importantly, is there ANY way to get rid of the geese? Do those bird-of-prey statues (hawk, owl) do any good? How about a large wind spinner? Any other sound advice?
Thanks!
Susan

We have the same issue but with 2 ducks in our HOA pool. Sane two every year. We’ve tried everything including the prey statues, noise makers, etc. - nope.

They don’t even care if a few people are in the pool! It’s a real problem because of the poop they leave everywhere in and around the pool.
