Hey Tuggers...

Just wanted to see who took the plunge and accepted Starwood's offer to SVR-Fountains owners to join SVN...(by the way I have read all the great threads on the subject...if others haven't, here are a few that scratch the surface: http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71319; http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70895; http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69917)

We only have one timeshare...we bought a 2BR SVR-Fountains resale in 2005...we have been to SVR twice since we bought it and we were happy to be able to join RCI Points...we have been able to book 4 other local trip using RCI Points...one Williamsburg and 3 OBX trips...(staying local is so much cheaper...it is so expensive to fly 5 of us down to Florida)

Our RCI Points membership dues are due August 31st for year #4...but I think we may take up Starwood's offer and join SVN...since we mostly stay local, I think the first trip we would take is to Sheraton Broadway Plantation in Myrtle Beach, SC...it is a little farther than the OBX...but at least we would not have to pay an exchange fee...wahoo...

So...who joined?

Your fellow Tugger,
Lee

what does the offer actually say? does it have a time frame that you are able to join? does it refer to having to be an owner by a certain date?

how many staroptions will your unit have and how many starpoints will it convert to?

being part of the SVN is great. the resorts are fabulous. it will open a whole new area of timesharing to you through II and not RCI. with RCI you could not get too many of the villas in the SVN because most of them only trade in II>

It is a limited time offer for complimentary enrollment in Starwood Vacation Network until October 1...it is even offered to resale owners...

Yes, you had to be an owner by December 31, 2007 and it had to be recorded by March 31, 2008...

All the Fountains owners are given 76,000 StarOptions which, I believe, can be converted every other year to 42,000 StarPoints...

76,000 isn't a lot of StarOptions...it would seem that 81,000 would be much better (according to the StarOption chart)...but at least one is able to get into the network which is a first for Fountains owners, especially resale Fountains owners...

We accepted the offer.

When we originally purchased (many years ago) we needed a 2br unit. Now, with the kids grown, I appreciate the flexibility of possibly getting 2 weeks in a one br unit in Orlando. In addition, I like being able to get into Hawaii or Nassau (even though it does take some planning). An exchange like that thru RCI wasn't easy at all and I think will be a whole better thru SVN (but I understand still not guaranteed and we're willing to be flexible)

We did have to use this years week in the same way as previously. The offer while accepted now begins for unit weeks in '09. We have reservations for one of the newly remodeled 2br units for the 2nd week of Sept. I'm looking forward to seeing it, but that will likely be my last time staying in 'my'unit.
