No shouty font. I copied and pasted from the poll and that's what came out. My point is simply that no one can know that they never have COVID, which this poll asks. Even an antibody test does not definitively answer this question.

Just because someone (definitively or otherwise) thinks they never had COVID doesn't mean they didn't. I know for some people it is hard to accept that there is no answer to a question, and many want to claim they never had it, but that is just how it is.
Fair enough. Similarly, this is true for other types of illnesses. I have been sick with all kinds of things . I say "Oh I had the flu" but who really knows b/c I've never gotten a medical diagnosis for it.

My point is that there are many people who really have no idea if they had Covid or not b/c they are not getting tested for it.

Additionally I know people who have been sick, test constantly (tests show negative), yet insist they have had Covid.

This is me, and normally I'm like you not testing or running to the doctor for things that I know are "going around." If two years ago I'd tested negatively I wouldn't have said I had COVID, but this time I am because it's exactly the same this time around. Honestly, I'm more worried about any lingering effects than the initial illness, considering how the first time progressed, and don't plan on involving my doctor unless there are lingering effects.

I wonder about your "test constantly" comment - how often would you say is too often? To me, four tests over two weeks of familiar symptoms didn't seem excessive, and once the box of tests was opened ...

I don’t have a rule or definition

My husband had it and was sick for 2 weeks and tested positive several times over those 2 weeks. I slept in the same bed with him with no mask and I tested repeatedly and was negative. I assume I did not get it then. It is correct that no one can ever know for sure. Maybe the survey should have had different options but it is too late to change the survey now. I have tested many times since covid tests came out. I have not gotten sick from Covid to the best of my knowledge. I am impressed by people who have tested positive yet have had no symptoms. I think that shows a strong immune system. I also think people who have repeated tested and not been sick must have good immune systems. I attribute my success with not getting Covid to having a strong immune system. I have never been personally worried about getting Covid for this reason. To my knowledge, I have never had the flu either. I do get vaccinated but even before I used to get vaccintaed for the flu, I never got it. I get some minor colds from time to time but they disappear within a few days so nothing I have ever had a problem with. I also do not have health anxiety so I never worried about getting Covid or any other disease. If it happens, it happens. I do worry about other people because most people are not so lucky. However, other than one person, I have not known anyone personally who has had a severe case. I am not sure why some people are obsessed with the concept of not knowing whether you have had it or not. It is not really a big deal to say “I have not had Covid.” I think it is common sense to not know for sure.

I have still never tested positive for Covid. My spouse has had it twice, testing positive on lab tests immediately after sharing long car trips with me. I tested negative at the same time, with the same lab tests. My mother—the only other member of my family to have not gotten it—did finally get it this summer, and I, again, tested negative with the same lab test. After all of these exposures, I also remained asymptomatic.

As far as we know neither of my adult daughters have had it. One has had initial two shots and a booster. Other only the initial two. I’ve had it once (day of bad headache and that’s it ) and initial two shots. Won’t let them get more boosters! I’m constantly exposed at work too. Haven’t even had a cold since 2019/early 2020. And take zero “precautions”. No longer test at all cuz what’s the point unless you need treatment.

I guess I'm the obsessed once, but I agree about common sense. Common sense and a tidbit of knowledge would keep people from thinking if they had no symptoms, that meant they didn't or don't have COVID..Common sense and a tidbit of knowledge would keep people from thinking if they tested negative soon after someone they were exposed to, that meant they didn't or don't have COVID. Common sense and a tidbit of knowledge would keep people from thinking that there are microchips in the vaccine or unproven cures should be bought at a feed store to treat yourself.

Sadly there are many that lack common sense, or we wouldn't be where we are today. I'll leave my obsession at that.
