While walking a reservation... an issue

Hi
I am walking a reservation and couldn't walk the check in date past Dec 31... I could move the check out day... which I did to keep the walk going forward. Monday I plan to contact customer service. Is this a "typical " issue with walking a reservation across a new year?

I assume that your reservation was using 2025 pts. One problem will be that the pts come from 2026. But I also believe that the HGVC booking system won’t allow it. Call it in and let CSR do it.

Actually using 2026 points, and have been using them for 15 days during the walk... I plan on adding a night at 12:00 tonight. And contacting CS tomorrow and letting CS do it as you suggestknow.

Let us know if CS must rebook it. I don't think anyone has posted your situation before.

I spoke with Customer Service this morning. I explained what my issue was… not being able to advance my check-in date past Dec 31. The agent initially said it was because I had used 2025 points… I explained that I had used 2026 points as I didn’t have any 2025 points remaining. He later said that you can’t advance the check-in date past the Dec 31 from the website. He cancelled my entire reservation and then rebooked. He knew about walking a reservation… So, here’s a scenario that I would find ‘troubling’… Let’s say I was at the maximum for my points during my walk, and it was a Saturday when I was walking my reservation and then hit checkin date hit Dec 31.. It seems that I couldn’t move my checkout date until customer service moved my checkin date… All this occurring while others are walking similar reservations.. Seems like I very easily could lose my spot on the ‘walk train’…. Hopefully that makes sense and could be useful to others…

The problem is that borrowed 2026 points *are* 2025 points for booking purposes. So the system doesn't allow them to book a 2026 reservation until they are 'unborrowed' which doesn't happen until the reservation is cancelled.

I just ran into a similar but different problem with a reservation I attempted to walk online across the year end boundary. So I called and the CSR couldn't walk it either...they had to cancel and rebook.

Good to know…. If it quacks like a duck… its a duck…) ljmiii… do you have any thoughts regarding the potential of maxing your points during the walk… then having the year end boundary issue come up which prevents you from walking… Do you see the potential for jeopardizing your ability to maintain your booking?

i have been able to walk across new year. i'll have to check what points were which but in the end we checked in 12/31 and out 1/4.

Then it doesn't seem like you walked across the new year like the Op was trying to do. The OP was trying to change their checkin day from 12/31 to 1/1.

Of course...but such is life. Walking isn't a guaranteed feature of HGVC and there are all sorts of reasons why the system won't let you walk online...some of which a CSR can override and some of which they can't and then they have to cancel and rebook. In the past I've had it happen because the system wouldn't allow me to change from a bHC resort to a HGVC one. And once at Lagoon 'just cuz'...the CSR was most apologetic.

But at least HGVC doesn't have waitlists like MVC or DVC so the CSR isn't having to fight the reservation system to make sure you keep 'your' previously booked nights.
