When you have a resort in a high demand area and most all the resorts are RCI affiliated or dual affiliated, would it be better to use II since there is so little inventory available to II or use RCI like the almost ALL of the area TS ?

For me it would depend on which exchange company had the places I wanted to exchange into.

You could also check out the Independent Exchange Companies. If it is a prime resort at a prime time, they might might be able to get you what you are looking to exchange into.

I like to alternate deposting between II and RCI. It gives me the flexibility to keep looking for the hard to exchange places I want to go.

I like II

After hearing the shenanigans over at RCI and the success I have had using II. In the last 2 months I have been able to use units from Christmas Mountain to book the Peregrines in Galveston and just this weekend a 2 bedroom Royal Mayan. I like the fact that II is good about keeping its bookings. I have recently got into RCI points and will use those for short stays and also will use RCI for its rentals.

I haven't tried using any of the other exchange companies, but they may be worth a shot.

go with II - they give me nice exchanges and another week (AC).

always go with the exchange company that has less of the area that you have...

That is great advice. Even a resort as overbuilt as Westgate carries a better value with RCI than II as II has all but oneof the Westgates now in their pocket. That one does far better in RCI than II.

But both are dwarfed by SFX IF you own a high quality resort and time. SFX will assure you an equal trade or make sure you get what you want vs what they might have available. If you really own a quality and high demand unit and want something equal in trade go SFX not II or RCI.

I have a resort that RCI rates gold crown, but II (so far) has not given it it's 5 star rating.

I'm using RCI until II makes the change.

I have a few that are dual and some trade better with RCI and some trade better with II. Which Resort are you talking about?

I asking about my Club Intrawest in Whistler. They, like HGVC, have a special relationship with RCI so as an exchanger you do not deposit a week but CI points. Also all exchanges are done by CI and you do not have a stand alone RCI account. Which makes it impossible or at least very difficult to do any last minute exchanges.

All my other resorts are II, so I'm more comfortable with their system but it seem that I have to use alot more points to get a top week to deposit.

Regarding Westgate my experience with II and RCI is the opposite. I tried RCI with my Westgate week and couldnt get anything that I would even consider. Always a bunch of junk resorts were offered.

I changed to II and traded to a two bedroom Hyatt in Puerto Rico, two bedroom Marriott Beachplace, two bedoom Marriott Manor club summer week among others. My week traded much better with II than RCI.

Bill, I'm not sure where you want to trade to, but I've found that my recent yellow CI Whistler deposit into II which cost 57 points (1 bedroom) pulled exactly the same as a 98-point "pink" deposit, though not quite as much as a true red week deposit costing 150 points (but it does pull almost everything that does). In any case the size of the deposit (as long as it's not a studio) does not seem to make any difference in what it will pull in terms of size. You would also get an AC for any Whistler deposit, even the yellow weeks.

Hi, I've heard of SFX mentioned here often. I've tried looking it up but can't find it. Could someone please tell me where I can find more info.?
Thank you

SFX is the San Francico Exchange, they are at www.sfx-resorts.com. There is an advise article on the TUG advice page about them. link

In general, SFX takes only high quality weeks during peak travel season. This means you're likely to get a great week during the time of year most people want to travel.

Club IntraWest & HGVC

Bill,

For the HGVC point system, sometimes it takes less points if one deposits the HGVC week into RCI for an exchange back into a HGVC resort, rather than if one were to use only HGVC points to get into that resort. This is for some exchanges, not all exchanges.

Does this scenario sometime occur with Club IntraWest?

Thanks
Richard

YES, it takes only 150 points to get a 2 bd red week for RCI and I would say that the average 2 bed red week CI location reservation using your CI points is 200-220 points. Sometimes more.

CI has 5 seasons and during much of RCI Red time, CI use peak and holiday seasons which cost up to 100% more than the other lower seasons during red time.

No, this will never happen with RCI since according to the rules of the Extraordinary Escapes program, "Club Intrawest Members are prohibited from reserving occupancy at a Club Intrawest location through the RCI Network."

However, this scenario is possible through II - possible, though not likely, at least if you're talking about getting a very high demand week. I can deposit a CI week into II requiring a lower number of points to try to trade into one needing more points, but that would mean that someone else has to deposit that other week for it to be available. It can happen, but it would not be my strategy, especially since there is an exchange fee involved (and there is no reservation fee to reserve directly through CI) and no guarantee that the other week would be there - unless I had seen it while seacrhing online before depositing and then rushed to deposit and grab the week. I do see desirable CI weeks online in II once in a while, but genearlly I'm looking to trade into other places and not back into a CI.
