Which Maui Hotels are Open and Which Are Closed at this TIme

didn't I read that the Gov was telling tourists to leave Wailea? But 1-by-1, they list Wailea as "still operating ... unaffected ... but ... All non-essential travel to Maui is strongly discouraged". Are they just not letting people cancel reservations in Wailea and hoping they don't show up?

The proclamation has been changed to read "all non-essential travel to West Maui".....

The short answer is that if you don't have an access placard into West Maui it is inaccessible to and will remain that way for a while. Visitors are not being given access placards.

Info about the placards.

And already an update to this information:

The new placard system is a bust. They were lined up for miles to get them in Napili and a lot of frustration. The good thing is a lot of people were together to talk about how no one cares about the people of upper west Maui. (Talking officials here). The Placard place had to suspend operation today because it was overwhelmed with so many people who didn’t need or weren’t supposed to get them. So as of now, going with old plan of showing IDs.

The directions weren't that hard to follow - If you are a West Maui Resident, rescue worker or volunteer come get a placard
