Which Hawaiian Resort?

I am thinking about placing a request for a Marriott in Hawaii.

I see that the Marriott resorts are consistently ranked at the very top of the Hawaiian Resorts, and I wondered which one you think is the most luxurious / 'Hawaiian'

My fiancee is kind of a hotel snob when it comes to romantic getaways and I think he wants to really feel that he's in Hawaii. For normal vacationing anything will do, but I was wondering if you think the Marriott Hawaiian resorts rival say...the Four Seasons Maui as far as ambiance?

I guess to sum up, I'm wondering which resort has the best Hawaiian ambiance.

I've only been to Maui Ocean CLub and Ko'Olina on Oahu. Of those, Ko'Olina is a much nicer resort (Maui has the best location in Hawaii, a huge pool, but is a hotel conversion at present). These are timeshare resorts, which I assume is what you are asking. Actual hotels probably tend to be much more Hawaiian. I watched a long Hawaii special on the travel channel that list a hotel on the North side of Oahu as the best, most Hawaiian hotel on the islands. I don't remember the name, but it is kind of isolated on the Northwest corner and was pretty expensive.

We own at maui and have been to the Kauai Marriott hotel. Can't be the Maui location. If this is a once in a lifetime, first trip, or once in a long while trip to Hawaii, go to Maui. Great location, rooms as the previous poster said are conversions, but unbelievable place!

Having said that, trading into Hawaii is difficult, especially for Marriott resorts, so take what you can get. It is not too likely you will get your choice of resorts unless you are very lucky.
