The smaller exchange companies dont seem to have much for the North East in warmer months. I know inventory is in short supply in this area in the Summer. I have some nice Summer weeks I use but if I wanted to exchange them for others in the same region what to do? The only thing that seems like an alternative is II with a look first approach. Any one have a better idea?

Deposit a week w/RCI & at least 12 months out. They have more inventory than anyone. Are you a member of II or RCI yet?

RCI but I haven't tried an exchange with them yet. Too many horror stories plus I am having fun using my weeks. Wait untill I get bored and feel like a change.

The only reason I don't cancel my RCI membership is b/c of the relative quantity (not necessarily quality) of Northeast resorts.

I would like to cancel my membership with RCI which expires Aug 2007, but looking at other exchange companies there are not too many NE choices as OP mentioned. Unless I am missing something.

Most I looked at are for Hawaii and West Coast. There were a few but very limited in the OC, MD area, VA Beach and OBX.

The North East US is kind of out of the timeshare mainstream

The North East US has a lot of older resorts, a nasty Winter and no great ski sites, a short Summer. I don't think this area is ever going to be great for timeshares. Fairfield is buying up older resorts in the Poconos and they probably think its cheaper to upgrade the oldies than to build new. The Catskils have real potential but I am not impressed with any of the resorts in that area. I think it's just going to be slim pickings in this area for a long time so I had better try RCI. Thanks for the good advice.

Rent out your desirable weeks then use that money to rent on your own. I would not depend on RCI finding you an equal exchange. If they had an equal exchange they wouldn't give it to you anyway. They would simply rent it out themselves and offer you junk.

My sentiments exactly. I gave up depositing valuable weeks a long time ago. My 2 bedroom summer weeks in an older, very plain vanilla resort, have consistently rented for up to $1200. via ads placed on RedWeek.com. And no haggling, either. I then use the rental income to rent exactly what I want directly from other owners.
